
Atlanta United and Minnesota United made some significant additions to their rosters in Tuesday’s Expansion Draft, with four defenders and three goalkeepers among those selected.
A pair of fullbacks were taken first as Montreal Impact fullback Donny Toia was the first overall pick by Atlanta United before Minnesota United chose Chris Duvall from the New York Red Bulls.
Zach Loyd and Collen Warner were selected in the second round by Atlanta and Minnesota, respectively. Meanwhile, Toronto FC goalkeeper Clint Irwin was one of the most notable picks by the Georgian club as he went in the third round.

When Toia was taken, that protected Harry Shipp from being taken right? Was anyone else surprised that this happened? Also compared to prior years, not as many players are being selected in expansion draft. Why?
Ouch, tough to lose Saied. Between Trapp, Tchani & Higuain injuries/absences, Saied did a more than admirable job filling in as needed and spent a lot of time on the field for the Crew since his was acquired.

expansion drafts have never been about picking players or filling positional needs – its all about gaining leverage/trade-able assets. great times ahead for these 10 players, I doubt half of them even play for these teams next year. second time for Warner & Toia too right?
It really seemed like they were just intentionally screwing each other over… lots of picks blocking options for the other team’s biggest needs.
