Ricardo Pepi’s impressive loan spell in the Dutch Eredivisie has not only caught the eye of PSV, but has reportedly caught the eye of league champions Feyenoord as well.
Feyenoord is interested in adding Pepi on a permanent move from German Bundesliga club Augsburg, Dutch outlet NOS reported Sunday. CBS Sports also confirmed the latest news involving Pepi, stating that Feyenoord has opened talks with Augsburg over a deal.
PSV has previously shown interest in Pepi, who concluded his loan spell with FC Groningen on Sunday.
Pepi, 20, led FC Groningen with 13 goals scored in all competitions for the relegated side. 12 of his goals came in league play, but FC Groningen couldn’t avoid the drop to the Dutch second tier.
A former FC Dallas academy product, Pepi scored 16 goals in 59 MLS appearances with FC Dallas before moving to Augsburg in January 2022. Pepi made four appearances for Augsburg last summer before earning a loan move to Groningen for continued playing time and development.
Pepi’s contract with FC Augsburg is set to run until June 2026.
Pepi was not part of the USMNT’s 2022 World Cup squad last fall but did feature for Anthony Hudson’s squad during Concacaf Nations League action last March.
Feyenoord clinched the Eredivisie table by seven points over PSV and will return to UEFA Champions League action next season.
Wonder if that means Santi Gimenez is going to be sold this summer?
Why would they sell Santi? 15 goals and rated at about 9 million they can probably get more for him from some EPL club.
Pepi looks like a poor man’s Santi.
I’d keep them both at least for one season.
A poor man’s Santi, what does that even mean? Well, Pepi is 2 yrs younger, so if you’re insinuating he’s not quite on his level then 2 yrs is a lot of time to develop in football
Rumor was the coach is leaving for the EPL perhaps Spurs and he’ll bring Giminez with him. Sounds like Slot has decided to stay at Feynoord so that’s probably out. Pepi and Giminez had pretty similar numbers in Eredivisie and Pepi with no help on his team. Feynoord wouldn’t meet Augsburg’s purchase price of 16 million but I don’t know if anyone would. There’s still 3 years left on the contract according to transfermkt so Augsburg should be content to loan him out and increase his value. Loaning him to CL club would help with that.
Patrick Bamford is a poor mans Michael Owen @Ronnie’s it just means he is a generic version of him. Like when you go to dollar tree store and buy cheese or Cmchocolate 🍫 🧀 it’s a generic cheap version , but you go to a company in the state of Wisconsin or the country of Switzerland that makes high quality cheese or chocolate with high quality ingredients their is a great difference, an upgraded quality of taste.
Ronniet?
“A poor man’s Santi, what does that even mean? ”
It means they are very similar players but Pepi doesn’t have his experience or his stats.
Ricardo is not as good but he has a chance to better Santi’s performance.
Vacqui-
I think the confusion was in the descriptor. When you describe something as a “poor man’s” version of something else, the connotation is usually that it’s a cheap imitation or knock-off of something better.
I wouldn’t say Pepi isn’t really a “poor man’s Santi” so much as a “young Santi”. Though in reading I don’t think you deliberately insulted Pepi. FWIW.
