The U.S. Under-17 men’s national team returns to action this month as additional preparation before the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Cruz Medina, Taha Habroune, and Paulo Rudisill headlined Gonzalo Segares’ 20-player roster for the Václav Ježek Cup in the Czech Republic. A total of 13 players return to the USMNT U-17 squad from the successful World Cup Qualifying campaign earlier this year.

The Václav Ježek Cup will run from Sept. 1-11 with the USMNT U-17’s facing Switzerland, Czech Republic and Ukraine. Ukraine will face the Americans on Sept. 6 before Switzerland does on the 8th and the Czech Republic on the 10th.

Midfielders Taha Habroune and Cruz Medina and forward Micah Burton each netted three goals for the USMNT U-17’s at the Concacaf U-17 Championship earlier this year. All three players have featured heavily in MLS NEXT Pro this season for Columbus Crew 2, San Jose Earthquakes II, and Austin FC II respectively.

Two players are making their first U-17 appearances this cycle with goalkeeper Zack Campagnolo and midfielder Matthew Evans being called in. Burton, Medina, defenders Tyler Hall and Oscar Verhoeven, and forward Brian Romero have been called into eight U-17 training camps.

The 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup is slated to take place in Indonesia from Nov. 10-Dec. 2. The draw for the tournament will take place on Sept. 15 in Zurich, Switzerland.

      • Regardless he is already playing for Philly’s u17’s. If he is good enough he is old enough. Maradonna was a professional at 15. Not Comparing the two. Just saying sometimes a player shows the ability to be playing in older age groups.

But yeah that’s true he can play in two more cycles.

      • Playing for Union U17s is great but the guys on this list are playing for their clubs MLS Next Pro teams. For NTs you don’t pick kids who are 13 playing up to U17. You play kids who are 16 playing up to U23. David Vasquez is a Philly prospect on this roster he doesn’t play for Union U17s he plays MLS Next Pro. Cavan’s ceiling is very high but he’s not ready physically to be playing elite players 4 years older than he is that’s why he isn’t playing MLS NP. He can play with regular 16 and 17 year olds but that’s not the same as playing the top 16 and 17 yr olds in the world.
