Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Richards, Cardoso, and more

Crystal Palace’s seven-match unbeaten run came to an end in Manchester on Saturday, but Oliver Glasner’s squad have a quick opportunity to rebound in English Premier League play.

Chris Richards and the Eagles travel to Newcastle United in a rescheduled league match on Wednesday. Richards scored his second league goal of the season in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Manchester City, making his 18th league appearance in the process.

The 25-year-old has remained a stalwart in Glasner’s backline, moving ever closer to setting a new career-high in single season appearances. A trip to seventh-place Newcastle will be tough but Crystal Palace has stood up to many of the league’s top teams this season, across multiple competitions.

Three points in Tyneside would keep the Eagles in the mix for a European qualification spot.

In Europe, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund have a mountain to climb against Barcelona. Johnny Cardoso and Tanner Tessmann seek advancement in their respective competitions.

In Mexico, Cade Cowell and Alex Zendejas continue their busy Liga MX schedule.

I don’t know if Palace lost concentration in the game or whether Kevin Debruyne just went Super Saiyan mode in the 35th minute. Palace could have been up 4 – 0 (hit the post and a slim offside goal) and look like they were all over city…….then all of a sudden, very suddenly, from 2 goals up lost their spark after Debruyne hit the post on a very good “City-style combination play”…..and then it was all downhill from there. Never seen a team suddenly lose their drive and motivation like that in a game in a long time
