English Premier League play continues this weekend with league-leaders Manchester City visiting the Emirates Stadium to take on third-place Arsenal in a showdown of two leading title chasers.
After back-to-back losses, Pep Guardiola’s side bounced back in a massive way on Wednesday, defeating RB Leipzig 3-1 away from home. Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Jeremy Doku all ended up on the scoresheet as the Citizens moved to 2-0-0 in UEFA Champions League group stage play.
Talisman Erling Haaland leads the Premier League with eight goals scored through seven matches.
The Gunners lost 2-1 on Tuesday at Ligue 1 side Lens, despite having an early advantage on the road. Mikel Arteta’s squad are unbeaten in seven-straight league matches and overall have defeated the Citizens once this season, edging Man City in the FA Community Shield back in August.
Another intriguing EPL fixture will be among the ones to watch this weekend as Brighton & Hove Albion hosts Liverpool. The Seagulls are sixth in the EPL table and are fresh off a comeback 2-2 draw in UEFA Europa League play.
Liverpool defeated Belgian side Union St. Gilloise 2-0 in Europa League action on Thursday, which was a bounce-back result after last weekend’s 2-1 league loss to Tottenham.
Brighton are unbeaten in their last three matches against Liverpool in all competitions.
Serie A play also will be on the radar this weekend as third-place Napoli hosts fifth-place Fiorentina in the league’s headlining clash. Napoli suffered a 3-2 midweek UCL loss to Real Madrid while Fiorentina tied Ferencvaros 2-2 in Conference League play.
Ligue 1’s schedule also features a top-six showdown with league-leaders Monaco visiting third-place Stade Reims. Only one point separates the two clubs ahead of Saturday night’s clash in Reims.
U.S. men’s national team striker Folarin Balogun enjoyed plenty of success at Stade Reims last season, but will now aim to score against his former club in his final match before international duty.
Tata Martino will hope to have Lionel Messi back available on Saturday as Inter Miami hosts East-leading FC Cincinnati. The Herons remain five points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and ultimately could use a statement victory on home soil.
FC Cincinnati has already captured the Supporters’ Shield and No. 1 seed in the East, but will be seeking a bounce-back result after losing midweek to the New York Red Bulls.
