Saturday marked Griffin Yow’s first Pro League appearance for Westerlo in over four months and although he didn’t start the match at RWD Molenbeek, the former DC United homegrown had a big say in the final scoreline.

Yow came off the bench on Saturday and netted a 94th minute equalizer for his first senior goal for the club. The 22-year-old played the final 17 minutes of the match, saving his best moment for last in a crucial result for last place Westerlo.

Westerlo was seeking a tying goal in the final moments and Yow delivered for them with one of the final kicks of the match. Thomas Van Den Keybus’ through ball allowed Yow to race towards goal before drilling a low shot into the bottom-right corner.

It marked Yow’s first goal for Westerlo in his sixth overall appearance since arriving from DC United.

A former U.S. Under-17 men’s national team standout, Yow made 36 appearances for DC United from Dec. 2018-June 2022. He joined Westerlo on a free transfer in July 2022 but mainly featured for the reserve team.

Westerlo next hosts Union St. Gilloise on Sunday, Oct. 29.

    • He was in Phoenix with U23s they might have just held him out because of the travel. Played basically at 5:00 am Thursday Belgian time then flew all day if he was able to get a red eye. Tough then to play on Saturday on one day recovery. He went out at his prescribed time in the U23 so I don’t think injury.
