Marko Mitrovic’s 18-player roster for the 2024 Summer Olympics is set.
Djordje Mihailovic, Miles Robinson, and Kevin Paredes headline the U.S. men’s Olympic team roster for the trip to Paris, France later this July. Both Mihailovic and Robinson are joined by Nashville SC defender Walker Zimmerman as the three players over the ages of 23-years-old.
Reigning MLS Cup winner Patrick Schulte and former Chicago Fire homegrown Gaga Slonina will compete for the No. 1 job at goalkeeper. Josh Atencio, John Pulskamp, Johan Gomez, and Jacob Davis have been chosen as the four alternate players on the roster.
Mihailovic, Slonina, Zimmerman and midfielder Gianluca Busio have been part of the senior USMNT roster during a competitive tournament. Zimmerman brings the most experience to the group, totaling over 40 international caps to date.
Busio and fellow midfielder Tanner Tessmann enjoyed Serie A promotion this past season with their club, Venezia. Griffin Yow and Taylor Booth set new career-highs in goals last season with Westerlo and FC Utrecht respectively.
The United States will face Thierry Henry’s France in its opening group stage match on July 24 before also taking on New Zealand on July 27 and Guinea on July 30.

He did sign a pro contract today. Still several other wings in front of him and I doubt BvB will sit quietly in the transfer window either.
And today USSF makes a big announcement…. They hired a new marketing director. Seriously how tone deaf are these people. I’m sure she’s great, congrats to her, but that’s not the press release people are looking for.
I hope this will somehow get Miles some confidence to regain his form before his injury

I don’t know Bac, CCV looked pretty lost in his two NT performances this summer, and Miles missed a month sitting on the US bench (I didn’t watch the two FCC matches last week). Showing well against that French frontline would tell people something. Mateta, Olise, and Lacazette is no joke.
That makes a good point, I’m glad he’s going.
Yeah CCV underwhelmed for sure, but just like I thought it was BS to put Brooks out to pasture after that disaster of a 3 man backline I wouldn’t give up on him yet.. But he looked slow
I’d rather see Miles earn a starting spot again, in all these potential scenarios for 26, he’s an important guy I think we’ll need back on his best game

Just want to add that 14 year old Cavan Sullivan registered his first pro goal with Union 2 . Picked up the ball beat two guys and fired home. Kid looked fast against older dudes. Has that ball.on a shoestring ability. Won’t be surprised if he makes a full Union debut this season.
I do like the Cremaschi inclusion. I think he has a bright future as an 8. Reminds me a little of mish mash of De Paulo and MaCallister
I don’t really understand the inclusion of Djordje Mihailovic (25) in this roster. I would have preferred to use his overaged roster spot on a more accomplished CF. Especially considering that there are others on the roster who could perform the same function as Djordje.
The other option I would have gone with would have been Meloney to provide coverage at CDM & CB if something were to happen to Tessmann.
But maybe no-one was willing to release one of the other CFs or Meloney.
Haji, Vazquez, and Pepi all not released. Never heard if they asked about Pefok, Balo, or Sargent but it seems pretty likely those would all be no’s.
Mitrovic tried for Morris as well. Seattle said no.
France’s frontline includes overage players Lacazette (19g for Lyon last season) and Mateta (16g for Crystal Palace) and Olise (age eligible) who just made 60 million euro move to Bayern after 10g last year for Palace. Not to mention Balo’s teammate Akliouche who had 7g 4a for Monaco as a midfielder.
At least they had shown they can compete against France already. But yes France has a lot of talent.
US had two legit chances to go up on France 2-0 in the first 10 minutes of that game. Mcguire and Aaronson caused quite a few problems for France.
Olise, Mateta, and Lacazette make them a lot more powerful though. Losing Thuram does hurt their MF some.

Is Paredes really listed as a forward? I thought he trained mostly as a LB at DC, and when I saw him for Wolfsburg, he usually was a wide mid.
He has played both wing positions and as a LWB for Wolfsburg. But in saying that Mitrovic didn’t need to bring two LB’s because Paredes can play LB if Tolkin gets injured or gets into yellow card issues. Luna over Wiley fir sure. Mitrovic git that wrong and fans/ pundits are tearing into it.
From what I’ve seen, Paredes is seen as more of a winger/wingback rather than a traditional LB.
Mitrovic may want a more trad LB type as a backup
But all in all it’s a good roster. Hopefully they play well and medal. That would be cool.
Well I guess McGuire isn’t coming out because he’s the only CF.

I think it’s got to be a perceived lack of versatility that keeps Luna out. Yow, Booth, Mihailovic, Pax, Paredes can all play other positions. Of course when you only brought him to one camp how do you know.

I couldnsee the versatility aspect maybe. Luna has played all attackingnpositions in his career even as a false 9.
What grinds my gears a little bit is having two LB’s on the roster when you have Paredes who can play LB. Could have left Wiley off and added another attacker.
I agree. I like Wiley but Tolkin is a fair bit ahead of him right now, as is Parades…so I’m confused.
Also confused as to just one striker myself. Can any of the wingers play striker? I’ve personally never seen any of them do it. (Maybe others have, but they all seem like edge players and dribblers to me.)
Leaving Luna off is truly befuddling to me. Any roster I myself made, the first name on my team sheet would be: 10-Diego Luna, and I’d sort of build around that. Then again, I’ve always been a proponent of letting my creative players create. So many coaches overcontrol. Gregg absolutely did.
I won’t quibble with a lot of the others – Duncan McGuire would have been the second name on my team sheet and Patrick Schulte the third – but I would have moved Heaven and Earth to get Brandon Vasquez on the team; he’s made for tournaments like this, up against guys who simply can’t match up with him physically. Between Vasquez and McGuire there always would have been goals on the field.
Instead we’re burning an overage spot on Mihailovic when we’ve got plenty at C-mid already.
I don’t much follow the logic and I suspect a lot of others don’t either. If Mitrovic bombs out there’s going to be an inquest…and there should be.
Q: Liga Mx has already started so getting Vazquez was always going to be tough. I wonder about Ferreira, but he’s been hurt off and on all year.
– I believe Yow played a tiny bit of CF early on for DCU and their affiliate Loudon. I also think Paxten played the false 9 for the U20s before Diego last cycle.

Don’t know why you bring two left back’s when Paredes can play LB. Seems to me that’s a gross error on a restricted roster. Could have used an additional attacker.
We look good on paper………like really good. I hope some of these players use this platform to showcase their talent and elevate their market value (like most players around the world that start from humble beginnings) …. especially some of our players who are free agents.
