Auston Trusty scores first Sheffield United goal in EFL Cup triumph

Auston Trusty walked away with his first goal for Sheffield United in his season debut on Tuesday night.

Trusty equalized for the Blades at Bramall Lane in an eventual 4-2 victory over League One visitors Wrexham. It marked the American defender’s fifth goal at club level in England.

Wrexham struck first through William Boyle’s 29th minute opening goal, but Trusty level the match one six minutes later. Trusty rose high at the back post and headed back across the box, watching as his effort snuck just over the goal-line.

A 57th minute own goal from Lewis Brunt propelled Sheffield United in front 2-1 before Louie Marsh and Anis Ben Silmane added insurance goals for Chris Wilder’s men. Sebastian Revan pulled a consolation goal back for Wrexham in second-half stoppage time but Phil Parkinson’s squad would finish the night as second best.

Trusty won 13 duels, made one tackle, and two interceptions in a strong overall performance.

Sheffield United next hosts QPR on Saturday in its second EFL Championship match of the new season.

  1. I think Trusty has some very good attributes. I do think he will get more looks for the USMNT. I think he will have a similar trajectory to his career like Ream. Trusty started his European adventure about 3 years younger than Ream did. Which bodes well for him.

  2. Trusty got beat on a header on Wrexham’s first goal. On his goal he had a free header that he sent across goal it went out for another corner. He again was unmarked on the ensuing corner and this time he decided to go for goal himself.
