Pato brace lifts Milan, Inter held

Brazilian prodigy Alexandre Pato scored a pair of goals to lift AC Milan to a 2-0 win against Genoa on Sunday.

The win moves AC Milan into second seventh place in Serie A, 10 points behind Fiorentina for the final Champions League spot with two games in hand.

First-place Inter Milan didn’t fair as well, settling for a 0-0 tie against Udinese on Sunday. The tie snapped an eight-match winning streak for Inter, which holds a five-point lead on AS Roma for first place. Roma defeated Palermo, 1-0, on Satuday.

Here are the rest of Sunday’s Serie A scores:

  • Fiorentina 2, Empoli 0
  • Torino 0, Lazio 0
  • Atalanta 2, Reggina 2
  • Cagliari 2, Napoli 1
  • Catania 0, Parma 0

Juventus plays Livorno at 2:30pm ET today.

  1. Pato’s first touch ain’t so great, I agree. But his ball skills (dribbling and what not) and passing touch is impressive for a young forward.

  2. cant believe there were so little goals…
1 goal in all the first half’s today…
then 4 came from one game…i was laughing when i saw this happen on RAI…Forza Roma!!

  3. “First-place Inter Milan didn’t fair as well…..”

Given that Inter played with 10 for 70 minutes away against a very strong side, I’ll suggest that they did quite well. I find it a little odd that the Soccernet story linked to here does not even allude to the fact that Ibrahimovic had a goal ruled out for a foul that was, at best, difficult to see.

  4. Patos probably the ugliest thing to ever come out of Brazil, but if goalies are gonna drop the ball at his feet, i guess he will score. I watched him play and his touch is not that great but he appears to have pace and for now the respect of him team, which is the most impressive thing to me.

  5. His goals may not be the prettiest, but to be making such an impact, at such a young age, for such a big club is pretty amazing. He has a bright future ahead of him.

  6. Also, Pato probably shout have gotten a hat trick. Rubinho was sent off after coming out outside the box to swat away a Pato chip.
Anyway, any thoughts of the American contingent that became majority owners of Derby?

  7. Pato needed 20 shots to get 2 in. (OK, it was more like 10 shots.) But I guess that’s his job as a forward to strike at goal.
To be fair, Rubinho made a couple of great saves on the kid. And Pato is just a kid at 18. There’s no denying his talent.

  8. Didn’t see much from Pato during the U-20 World Cup, but I guess it’s good for AC Milan. I still enjoy watching Inter and Juve more, though.

  9. Ives, might want to revise that spot on the table. It’s not second now, and it may not ever be second.

Glad Pato is making such a huge impact, though!
