Red Bulls to hire Omid Namazi as assistant coach

Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has settled on his first, and only, assistant coaching hire. Osorio is set to name New Jersey Ironmen head coach Omid Namazi as Red Bulls assistant coach, a source with knowledge of the decison told Soccer By Ives on Tuesday. The club will announce the hiring on Wednesday.

SBI has also learned that Osorio will only be hiring one assistant coach to go along with goalkeeper coach Des McAleenan on his staff. Osorio prefers a smaller coaching staff. Former coach Bruce Arena had two assistants, Richie Williams and John Harkes, on his staff. Williams will take on a new role with the Red Bulls organization.

  1. Ah beat me to it kpugs, was just going to mention EJ’s deal. Looks like he’s adding to Fulhamerica’s roster. Interesting with Dempsey up top and McBride coming back soon from injury.

  2. as far as not selecting Williams or Harkes, JCO might simply want a completely fresh start…he wouldn’t have to worry about any pre-existing relationships that either of them may have had with players (for better, or worse)
