Good evening folks. A day after D.C. United thrashed Harbour View, 5-0, to reach the CONCACAF Champions Cup it is the Houston Dynamo’s turn to try and book a place in the semifinals.
Houston will look to knock off Guatemalan side CD Municipal tonight at Robertson Stadium after the team’s finished the first leg in Guatemala tied 0-0.
If you will be watching the match on Fox Soccer Channel, and plan on being near a computer, please share your thoughts and opinions (as well as some play by play) in the comments section below.
Enjoy the match.
—————————-
FINAL– Houston 3, CD Municipal 1. Some questionable calls aside, Houston deserved this victory. Dwayne DeRosario and Corey Ashe took it to another level and Municipal couldn’t hang.
That said, the Guatamalan squad deserves some respect. They are a good team.
Thanks for following along on the commentary. Share your final thoughts on the match in the comments section below.
—————————-
94th minute– Questionable handball costs Municipal a chance at a second goal. That said, there’s major whining going on here from Municipal.
—————————-
91st minute– Municipal comes close with a sequence but can’t finish it off. I have to say I was impressed with Municipal this tournament.
—————————-
85th minute– PENALTY for Municipal and Pando Ramirez converts it. Houston 3, Municipal 1.
—————————-
84th minute– Corey Ashe has been a beast tonight.
—————————-
82nd minute– This just in: Getting a red card in a tournament is bad. Who knew?
—————————-
80th minute– Okay, I was going to ignore this but what U-23 tournament are these FSC announcers watching? Patrick Ianni has not had a great showing with the U-23 team. I highly doubt he starts against Canada tomorrow.
—————————-
77th minute– Brian Mullan for Dwayne DeRosario. DeRosario is Mr. Clutch.
—————————-
75th minute– Franco Carraccio coming in for Wondolowski
—————————-
75th minute- GOAL HOUSTON. Chris Wondolowski finished a great cross from Corey Ashe. Municipal is finished. 3-0 Houston.
—————————-
69th minute- GOAL HOUSTON. DeRosario converts the penalty kick.
—————————-
67th minute– PENALTY Houston. What a questionable PK that is. Terrible call.
—————————-
64th minute– Damn, my jinxes usually work most times. Guess not this time.
—————————-
59th minute– Odds of a second goal coming in this match? About 1,000/1.
—————————-
47th minute- GOAL HOUSTON. DeRosario makes a great spin in the box and beats Penedo from close range. Houston 1, Municipal 0.
—————————-
46th minute– And we’re back
—————————-
HALFTIME– Houston 0, Municipal 0. There have been some chances but some disciplined defending for the most part. I’m starting to wonder if Houston has the firepower to get the goal it needs. That said, none of Municipal’s attackers look capable of finishing.
—————————-
37th minute- Pat Onstad makes a clutch save on a Mario Rodriguez breakaway. To be fair, the shot was close to Onstad’s body.
—————————-
28th minute– Municipal complaining about a DeRosario foul. It’s tough to take their anger seriously when their uniforms have advertising on the butt. Who bought that ad slot? Who says, "You know where we’ll get noticed? On the players’ asses.
—————————-
26th minute– Wondolowski missed with a headed corner. Houston is going to convert one of these corners.
—————————-
21st minute- Municipal looks up to the challenge tonight and just might pull the upset against a short-handed Houston squad.
—————————-
19th minute– Okay, I was kidding.
—————————-
18th minute– I don’t know who this Claro guy is for Municipal but he’s everywhere.
—————————-
14th minute– Penedo with a clutch save off a Waibel header. The Municipal defense looks terrible on set pieces.
—————————-
10th minute– Municipal goalkeeper Jaime Penedo is a quality player who landed in Guatemala after a failed stint in Spain. I’m surprised he didn’t find his way to MLS.
—————————-
7th minute- Defender Renato Blanco for Municipal looks like a player. Somebody offer that guy a contract.
Houston corner comes close as Chris Wondolowski heads wide.
—————————-
5th minute- Brian Ching with a chance but can’t get a shot off in front of goal. It looked like he was waiting to be taken down.
—————————-
4th minute- We’re under way here and Mario Rodriguez has already managed to dive about 17 times.
USA v Mexico now into the Semis
If we can see DC United v Houston that would be huge for the MLS, and could be what the league needs to finally show all of CONCACAF that the MLS is the league of the area.
Ok Austin Powers you should be fired after saying that Max.
How has Municipal not got a red here at the end.
A great 2nd half from Houston, they play like this and when they get a little better cuz you know they will as the season goes on, they could be the team again. Of course I am hoping they slip up so RBNY can step in and actually win a trophy.
Hou’s backline has NOT impressed, they could have easily given up 3 with some decent finishing…
And again!
I like the Brian guy, atleast he just talks soccer, and about the game. Max is just dumb.
Make up call!
If only the end was near for these two idiots calling the game. I know there’s an Organ Grinder with a damn Monkey who would call a better game.
Let me get this straight. Max just realized that if you get a red card, you are suspended for the next game? Where has he been for the past…well…FOREVER?!?!
These broadcasters are just so bad that you have to laugh.
yeah where is he from?
# 10 Franco caraccio
Who is Houston’s #10?
the penalty was a good call… defender cannot kick your feet from under you without at least touching the ball…
Houston wants Mexicans for the community. I love the way that was worded. Dante you took the words right out of my head!
Why would Houston want to get a DP? It might get in the way of all of the MLS Cup wins.
How many games did Ashe play last season, could he be considered a rookie this season, if so I think he could be the RoY.
Nice goal, glad to see a legit 2nd goal. Love to see Ching back in action, he holds the ball up so well. I’d love to see him and Altidore up top for the ‘Nats.
oh we got a good match now, lets just hope Houston doesnt get to many cards.
That was a gay penalty call, but HELL YEAH
Dante,
Everyone knows soccer fans are balding men and foreigners who speak English when making calls to their home countries, such as India and Brazil.
Ashe has really been a terror for this team.
With Marquez I dont know, I could see a team like Chivas USA bringing him in, especially if they where to get a DP some how. If he was given the money I think he would deffently go to LA.
the pace of the game is exciting! end to end stuff…
Anybody have a link for the match? thanks.
Nice concentration there from DeRo after gettin spun around.
That was the greatest “Oh, look at what I found” goals I have ever seen.
Houston fans need to throw more streamers!
FSC needs better sponsors. Are soccer fans supposed to be Christian Rock fans?
Keith,
It would be great if MLS could get Marquez, but let’s be honest here; he would go to Mexico before ever coming to MLS. He would be able to make a lot more money there.
That was a horrible 1st half. Houston better make some changes or they are not going to win this game.
The image isn’t as bad as down at Municipal, some of that footage looked like it was on the stadium security cam
is it just me, or does this look like its being shot with a sony handi-cam?
On the Onstad save, credit to the forward for going for goal instead of flopping with the contact
ok im not the only one that thinks Max is horrible. The guy is so irritating to listen too. That and he says the dumbest things sometimes.
Wondi is playing like crap, he needs to finish, and have better touches in the 18
Hey Max – Silva hasn’t disappeared. You just suck as an announcer. NM
What a great save by Onstad!!!
Actually agree with the FSC guys, Hou needs to get a goal off this pressure, it’s never good when let the other team hang around (especially when they’ve shown they can burn by your backline)
Oh and on my one note if Lucio did go to Barcelona, if I was the Red Bulls I would tell them that if they want Altidore then they have to give us Marquez. We all know the Red Bulls could use the deffense, of course if Altidore left we would need a ST.
The after Marquez left, the Mexican fans would leave too. Besides, Marquez is not coming to MLS and Houston has said they are not interested in getting a DP.
Houston needs to get the numbers up into the box or they will never score.
Nice little give and go, an actual soccer move
Houston is doing good in the stands but every team can do better. Say the rumor is true and Lucio leaves Bayern Munchen and goes to Barcelona. Barcelona then lets Marquez go, and say Houston pick him up. You dont think more fans especially Mexicans will start showing up?
Anyway, I was just joking with my last comment. I don’t think the Dynamo cares about anything but winning titles. They don’t struggle at the gate at all, so they don’t need gimmicks like Blanco to Chicago and Beckham to LA.
ives – are you REALLY surprised that he slipped past mls? i mean c’mon…on that note, do you know who specifically is responsible for scouting potential internationals for the league? it cant be gazidis, can it?
Aren’t there enough Mexicans in the Houston community? 😉
When will Houston start going out and bring in some Mexicans? You would think they would want some for the community.
Did anyone see the cheerleader with the arm sling before the game? You just have to love a girl willing to play through pain. I wonder how she hurt it. 😉
Huh?!? How is it “Good Communication” for the Hou backline to lose a forward with a 1-on-1 on goal?
Wondolowski
Aw crap, Ching has to be quicker than that. Missed the line-ups – who’s paired with Ching?
Rangers-Devils will be on my tele but I hope Municipal can keep it close.
