  1. Still 0-0 after first period of extra time. Seattle had two goal opportunities that fell apart because they tried to center the ball before taking a shot, and the Wizards smoked out the play both times.

Sometimes you have to take the bad-angle shot. Just ask Arjen Robben.

    We’re 15 minutes from penalties…

  2. Quick analysis: more attacking, better possession, and greater fatigue for Seattle. Oh, and their keeper has been on it so far.

  3. BTW, Charleston’s win against FC Dallas means that next week’s semifinal will be played at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston. If Seattle can pull off the upset, a USL club will be guaranteed a spot in the final.

  4. 70th minute. Two more great scoring opportunities for the Sounders. One shot is blocked just wide, and a second attempt after a corner went over the bar.

Wizards continue to get a lot of questionable calls to go in their favor. Second week in a row for this. This is far too Serie A-ish for my tastes.

    Still Sounders 0-0 Wizards.

Qwest Field looks so much better without the gridiron lines. Anyone have an idea of how many people are there tonight?

  5. The announcer for Federal News Radio is VERY good. He’s quick, but understandable and enthusiastic. You can really feel the tension.

That is Tony Limarzi. He also does DC United games on Comcast on occassion. He is one of the better young announcers coming up.

  6. Seattle 0-0 Kansas City at half

Big slop-fest at the end of the half that saw the Sounders get about two or three great chances, but none found the net. KC looks to have gotten away with at least one would-be off-sending, and maybe two.

  7. I’ve only listened to Limarzi once, probably for some early-season DCU game, and I instantly loved him. He made me realize how bad most of our soccer announcer are…

  8. The Federal News Radio announcer is Tony Limarzi. He recently wrote a book about Italy’s 2006 win and is also the author of my favorite college basketball blog…

I know you were just trying to make the point of how unbelievably bad Chad Barrett is, but come on, you don’t have to insult Zach Wells to maximize your insult of Chad Barrett. Wells is NOT the worst goalkeeper in MLS. Wells is better than Conway, Sutton, and Cronin, at the very least. I would say Cronin is the worst by far at this point. Which is disappointing considering he seemed so good until he was actually made number one.

  11. Another chippy game. Blanco being blanco, kicked a ball at Burch. Retaliation. Two red cards. the announcer’s pissed with the refs.

  12. According to usopencup.com the coach put himself into the game!

    – DC and the Fire are going into Overtime.

    – There’s a lightning delay in Dallas.

  13. “Holy sh*t! Jim Cherniski (the coach of Crystal Palace Baltimore) has entered the game.”

    WHAT?? please explain.

  14. My hearts in my throat. Isn’t this what American’s love in their sport. A high pressure knockout tournament. I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but how doesn’t this get on tv again?

  17. Fire 1-0 DCU at the half

Goal by Woolard on a DCU give away and easy finish for anyone that isn’t named Chad Barrett.

  18. “I’m not a good radio listener, but then very few fans are. The crowd are much quicker than the commentators-the roars and groans precede the descriptions of the action by several seconds-and my inability to see the pitch makes me much more nervous than I would be if I were at the game, or watching on TV. On the radio, every shot at your goal is headed for the top corner, every cross creates panic, every opposition free kick is right on the edge of the area; in those days before televised live games, when Radio 2 was my only link to Arsenal’s distant cup exploits, I used to sit playing with the dial, switching between one station and another, desperate to know what was going on, but equally desperate not to have to hear. Radio football is football reduced to its lowest common denominator. Shorn of the game’s aesthetic pleasures, or the comfort of a crowd that feels the same way as you, or the sense of security that you get when you see that your defenders and goalkeeper are more or less where they should be, all that is left is naked fear. The bleak, ghostly howl that used afflict Radio 2 in the evenings was entirely apposite.”

  19. But at least that’d be one thing off our list. Soccer’s got a long way to go and I know that we’d be complaining about all that, but we have to make progress.

  20. “Because Every Stinking Pitch Network would rather show a three year old Little League home run contest than a soccer match …”

Because if they did we’d complain about:

    a) the small crowds

    b) the announcers

    c) the video quality

    d) the camera angles

    Sad but true.
