Here is a closer look at all of Wednesday’s games:
Wednesday’s Champions League Group Games
- Chelsea at CFR-Cluj Napoca
- Roma at Bordeaux
OUTLOOK– Cluj’s upset of Roma has Chelsea on notice that traveling to Roma and getting all three points won’t be easy. Roma is in trouble, not just in Serie A, but in Champions League. A point at Bordeaux is a must for the Italians.
- Panathinaikos at Anorthosis Famagusta
- Werder Bremen at Inter Milan
OUTLOOK– Bremen is in a tough spot. Having settled for a disappointing draw in its opener against Anorthosis, now the German club must get a point or three at the San Siro against an Inter squad that will surely be looking to rebound from its loss to AC Milan. Anorthosis could jump into second place in the group with a win against the Greeks.
- Barcelona at Shahktar Donetsk
- FC Basel at Sporting Lisbon
OUTLOOK– Barca will be the favorite in the Ukraine and can take control of the group with a win, but Donetsk is an underrated squad. Sporting needs three points to try to pull even with Donetsk.
- PSV Eindhoven at Liverpool
- Marseille at Atletico Madrid
OUTLOOK– The Group of Death gives us two quality match-ups. Liverpool is in great form and should be able to handle a PSV squad that hasn’t exactly been dominant in the early Dutch season. Atletico has a loaded offense, and will have home cooking. Marseille has looked less than dazzling in recent Ligue 1 matches and just might get blown out.

I think Chelsea going into Romania so shorthanded makes that a fascinating match. I also want to see if Atletico maintains its form and whether Barca finds any luck at Shaktar.
yeah, Ryan, that should be…intense.
I wish I could be somewhere near the Cypriot-Greek matchup. That atmosphere is going to be unrivaled by anything.
Vamos BARCA !!!!!! I know its tough away game in Eastern Europe but we can do it !
It looks like today’s matches won’t be as tasty as yesterday’s matchups.
Interesting scoring item: On Match Day 1, groups A-D scored 22 goals on the first day and Groups E-H scored 14. A goal a game difference. Additionally, E-H had 4 games with 1 goal or less scored.
Yesterday, Groups E-H scored 17 yesterday with 3 games at 1 goal or less. Today might show us if there is a real difference between the two halves in terms of attack vs. defense.
