The city of Seattle will play host to the first MLS game of the season and the last.
Major League Soccer has awarded the 2009 MLS Cup to Seattle, which will see its expansion team, Seattle Sounders FC, open play on March 19th against the New York Red Bulls.
The 14th playing of the MLS Cup will kick off on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 8:30pm at Qwest Field, making Qwest Field the eight stadium to host the event. The game will be played on artificial turf, making it the first MLS Cup to not be played on grass.
What do you think of the choice? Glad to see it in the Pacific Northwest? Wish it weren't going to be on the West Coast for a second straight season?

While being able to fill a big stadium has clear financial and PR rewards that you cant knock on…..it is somewhat of a punch in the mouth to those cities that have worked hard to build their own stadiums.
I also hope that these rumors are true about Qwest field being able to get some real turf in there for the game.

Luke, why is it a “punch in the mouth” to anyone? Seattle is a city “that [has] worked hard to build [its] own stadium.” Is awarding the Cup to Seattle a punch in the mouth to Seattle then? Oh, you meant because it’s not a SSS? It is. It was designed specifically for soccer. And for American football. And many other events. Oh, so you meant because the Sounders aren’t the only tenant? Jeez, we share so that we can have the best, rockin’-est stadium in MLS without having to tax citizens once again. We’re such d1cks that way.
All these complaints about Seattle.. WTF do any of you know about Seattle?
The Sounders have been around since before most of your parents had a drivers license.
totally bogus choice.
The non-SSS and non-grass issues aside (which are big) it throws a wrench into Garber’s own ‘concerns’ about weather and why Toyota Park hasn’t had a final hosted there yet. Seattle isn’t exactly warm in November either.
I guess Microsoft bucks were able to grease the wheels enough to land the event.
Bogus choice.

Because BMO has, without an question, the worst turf in the league. (that’s saying something considering how big a joke Giants Stadium is)
