College Soccer Weekend Wrap

The ACC season kicked off for a number of teams over the weekend, as college soccer action continued across the country. The University of Maryland got its league schedule started right with a 2-0 victory over Boston College in College Park. The Terrapins face Duquense on Tuesday. Elsewhere in the ACC, Duke beat Virginia 1-0 in double overtime, while midfielder Michael Farfan scored the game winner as UNC beat NC State 2-1.

In the northeast, highly-ranked St. John's struggled in its two games of the weekend. On Friday night, the Red Storm couldn't defeat neighboring Stony Brook, drawing 1-1. Then on Sunday, St. John's tasted a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Boston University, a result that will likely boost the Terriers up the rankings. Moving a bit further north, the UConn and Dartmouth match ended in a 0-0 draw after double overtime.

No. 1 ranked Akron maintained their perfect start to the 2009 season, going 2-0 at the Bearcat Classic. Friday night featured a 4-1 win over High Point, and then beat Cincinnati 3-0 on Sunday.

  1. Go Lobos of New Mexico! a narrow 3-2 loss against Indi and a 2-1 win against Notre Dame, both on the road. They deserve to be ranked a lot higher than they are.

  3. I would like to see More of the Best talents together on the same teams. College soccer is too spread out for the players to have quality soccer every game.
