The Houston Dynamo take on Panamanian side Arabe Unido tonight in a pivotal CONCACAF Champions League clash at Robertson Stadium in Houston (10pm, Fox Soccer Channel).

The Dynamo currently sit in third place in its group, three points behind group leaders Arabe Unido, and two points behind Pachuca. A win tonight would pull Houston into a tie with Arabe Unido. Pachuca faces Isidro Metapan in the other group match.

Houston is coming off a 2-0 loss to Pachuca in group play, a match that saw the Dynamo draw yet another red card. Houston coach Dom Kinnear will be praying he doesn't see a repeat of the last meeting between these teams, a match that saw five red cards issued, including three to the Dynamo. Arabe Unido scored a 90th-minute equalizer to salvage a draw in that match.

If you will be watching tonight's match, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. @chg and Never First — You’re both wrong. GD is not the first tiebreaker in CONCACAF CL play. It’s the fourth. The first 3 relate to head-to-head matchups. Points in head-to-head, then away goals, then total GD (I believe I have that order right, but #2 and #3 may be flipped). United has to do more than win. They have to win by at least 2 goals (a 3-1 win would likely get it down to the total Group GD).

  2. DCU and Marathon are even on GD now, so a win will give them the advantage. Of course, DC still has to play at Toluca which could get ugly. I wouldn’t bet money on them qualifying, but considering how poorly they played the first two matches, it’s great that they still have a chance.

How is this for a stat? Mexican teams have only lost once in this competition and have outscored opponents 41-11.

  3. If DCU wins, they will likely need the GD edge on Marathon. Thanks to the Hondurans 0-7 result in Mexico City, DCU amazingly has a chance of taking that tiebreaker.

Columbus will likely win the only group of four legitimate teams if they win at home tomorrow.

  4. Houston and Columbus have every opportunity to advance after tonight. Good night for MLS.

If DC wins at home on Thursday, they also will be in great position to qualify.

  5. Go Dynamo! Yeah, it rained ALL DAY today. I forgot there was even a game today considering the bad weather. It’s good to see Eddie Robinson back on the pitch. Holden is looking promising once more with the good service in the box and that awesome header he nailed. Hope the Dynamo play with the same intensity during the MLS playoffs.

  6. I’m pretty sure that 3rd Pachuca goal was offside. The goal-scorer was ahead of the shooter and behind the defense when the shot was taken. The rebound off the goal frame cannot put him onside if he has gained an advantage from the offside position. Unless I’m wrong about his position….

  7. @RevsFan – there was a good blog post by the Chron writer Fallas today about that. Here’s a summary of it.

Skill wise (my opinion) – I’ll miss him, as he was quick, had some flair and was a decent MLS forward. I doubt he’ll find a home overseas though.

Contract/money wise – A smart move by the FO, since KK was in the last year of his contract, coming off Gen Adidas status. AT just signed on a slightly cheaper 4 yr deal. With a few of our big names at the end of their current deals, cap space is premium.

Attitude – KK was a complainer on the field, and was apparently having issues with Dom. Wanting team unity in the locker room definitely is better going into the playoffs.

  8. I and most of my friends liked Kamara for the most part. But his quality was starting to slide and with Landin coming in, you could tell he was rattled and started getting too emotional and made bad decisions. It would have been nice to keep him as I’m not sold on Abe, but he was going to be out of contract and wanted to get paid starter money. Better for him to leave now.

  9. Ashe is great as a second half sub because his pace kills tired legs. He has a pretty good cross from the left side. And oddest of all things, he has an amazing jump and wins header despite his size. Starting he sometimes fades away. As the FSC commentator said, his biggest knock is that he favors one foot too much.

Attendance is pretty horrid, but a lot of that is because it’s rained like crazy the whole day. I’m kind of amazed the pitch doesn’t have some standing water. The front office offered tickets at $5, so they were really trying to get some people out.

  10. So Houston fans, does Ashe always look this good? He ha maybe one bad touch this half but has looked dangerous and decisive a few times.

  11. Crowd sucks, 9 PM sucks and opponent sucks the worst. Too bad no Stuart. I hope Houston and Columbus make it through- I think next round will be exciting.

  12. GOAL HOUSTON!!! Eddie Robinson taps home a blunder from the Arabe Unido goalkeeper. Comes to catch a corner kick, it hits him right in the hands and spills to Robinson. Houston 1, AE 0.

  13. huge crowds at both the PR and Houston matches (insert sarcasm). I know mid-week games and other reasons/excuses…still a tough pill to swallow.

  14. Anyone got a link to the dynamo game…at a friend’s house studying (who doesn’t have FSC). ATDHE lists a feed but it isn’t up. All help is appreciated. Let’s go Dynamo!

  15. Puerto Rico just scored in the 72 to go up 1-0 at home over Saprissa, now in the 76th. The field has been literally hurricaned on for the last couple of days and just looks TERRIBLE.
