  2. ‘I for one just want adu to come back to MLS and resurrect his career like donovan did…’

Freddy Adu never had a career in MLS. He was lucky to get a game.

  3. that should read “I doubt he will be let to go on short term loan” based on Beckham’s season -ending and possibly career ending injury. Certainly Beckham is out for the 2010 season. Guess he’ll start lining up a city for his promised MLS franchise…

  4. Looks like David Beckham blew out his Achilles in the Milan-Chievo match near the end. Disastrous news for MLS and Beckham. Also not good for Donovan as I doubt MLS will not let one of its few marketable players go on short-term loan without big money from a sale.

    Brooklyn,

    Why?

The World Cup is a pretty intense, physically demanding tournament. All 23 players need to be counted on to play if called upon.

It is a real luxury, one that a team like the US cannot afford, to bring along any player knowing he won’t play. Especially a player like Adu whose future as a top level pro, let alone on the USMNT, is far from assured.

If you could do that it should be Bedoya, whose near term future appears to be a lot more promising than Adu’s. In one year as a pro he has managed to establish himself as a regular in a European league something Adu hasn’t been able to do in nearly 5 years of trying. Yes, Sweden isn’t as tough as Portugal but so what? Charlie Davies came from there.

    BetaMale,

Adu currently plays for Hector Cuper, a very well respected coach, perhaps the most respected of all of Adu’s rotating cast of coaches. If his verdict on Freddy is thumbs down then things look bleak for Adu’s long term future in the top flight.

  7. Real Madrid/Valladolid a VERY chippy match so far. Rivaldo carved a nice chunk out of Ronaldo’s shin with a cheap stomp shortly before half.

You kick these guys all you want — they’re still world-class players. 2-0 Real.

  8. barca 3 – 0 over Sevilla. Messi with the quality hat trick and Henry coming on at half with two assists showing that he should be starting at center forward with Zlatan out injured. CANNOT WAIT till Henry comes over to NY.

  9. According to the club web site, Freddy Adu did not play today. Pretty much the same as he did in MLS, Portugal, and France, DNP.

  10. Yeah, what a beauty. You could see it coming and knew exactly what he was going to do… but it was fit absolutely perfectly an inch above the jumping defender’s head and an inch (or so) below the crossbar.. all with finesse more than power. Crazy.

  11. I for one just want adu to come back to MLS and resurrect his career like donovan did……… He reminds me so much of donovan….. In the sense that he was not ready to go abroad when he did….. He needs to head back mls once he has the chance and get ready for 2014. I hate to be saying this……. He def needs to go to south africa but at this point I dont want him to get anytime on the field….. He just needs to experience a world cup …….. I really want my red bulls or beckhams team( hopefully the second ny team which beckham will own once he is done in 2012) will sign him
