Which matches are you looking forward to the most?
Crowd was weak in Detroit because the cheapest tickets were $40…way to much for a friendly between these two teams in one of the worst hit cities recession-wise in the country. If they were $15, you would have seen a ton of people. Just dumb promoters.
Plus the Silverdome holds 80k people, so the stadium will dwarf any crowd under that. The Lions play at Ford Field, which holds about 75k, and gets close to selling out even with the team as bad as it is.
gooch, in a interview with goff, he said he didn’t expect to play.
“Probably not. I am not trying to rush back and play in the game just because it’s here in America. I am there just to get ready and get fit, and in essence, this game is just a preseason game and the real deal starts in a few weeks [Aug. 29 vs. Lecce.]”
FSP got two ligue 1 games a weekend when they took Setanta’s rights last year. But they didn’t show any of the games this spring. Both FSC and FSP show Serie A games in this time slot, so there may be no more Ligue 1 games once the Italian season starts…
He’s not getting paid this year and he’s there by choice, so essentially they don’t care about him. FYI.
He’s playing in Sunday’s reserve match against Nancy. He’s got his work cut out for him since Sochaux signed a few strikers including one who played for France’s U19 European Champions.
To think people were on Bob’s case about not bringing him to the WC–puhlease.
Bad sign? I’d say good sign. It means they want him healthy. if they let him go, I’d say that was a sign they did not care about him.
Again that’s assuming he gets a DP slot, and he is competing against Beckham and Donovan kits….
Wow Ronaldinho being overrated is a completely different thing then a kid who couldn’t make it on a mid table Swiss side. MLS fans should be smarter then that. I can not see Galaxy Adu kits selling to make up for DP money, it’s not happening.
Disagree about his “marketability.” In one season, Galaxy would make half of what they paid for Adu back in his jersey sales. Tons of people think Ronaldinho is overrated yet they still buy his shirt. Same thing would happen with Adu.
Yeah did really well at the end of his stint with DC (I know he wanted out)… And how do you figure he will sell jerseys? Any MLS fan knows he is overrated. And btw every reason that I have read about why Adu is not getting on an Euro team is the fact that he has no discipline. And when Adu plays a team like NYRB, he will be exposed. I am sorry but signing Adu for anything more then minimum salary is a waste of money….
Everyone say what you want but look at it this way a team that is already good is bringing in some flair with adu plus he sells jerseys smart money move. MLS aint europe. Adu’s defensive gaps (his mean weakness and Euro turn off)wont be noticed or even properly exploited just look at Philly Union the other day
Fire-Red Bull, yes!
Is Milan really not going to even give Gooch a courtesy run out in a meaningless friendly in the USA? That cant be a good sign.
Yes they did. In fact, Boca’s new team, St. Etienne will be playing.
Tigers are at home against the Angels. In any event, let’s see how the group that eventually wants an MLS team for Detroit plays out in the years to come. They should go for a USL/NASL team first and try for “promotion” (as Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, and Montreal did).
I still haven’t gotten Fox Soccer Plus! Darn you Cox…
Davies didn’t make the roster for Sochaux. Looks like we may have to wait a few months for him to get back up to speed. Hurry back CD9!
I never heard that FSC picked ligue 1 up…. I think its a mistake bcause I went 2 check it on tv and it came up a league. No biggie, I guess I’ll just watch cusa vs tfc
I like the French league too – good atmosphere and great teams to watch at times. Bundesliga is still my fav though.
When I saw the World Soccer Reader story about Adu, I just assumed it would not be for DP money. The way MLS has been convincing foreign leagues to let foreign players out of their contracts without a fee, why not Benfica too. And since LA traded Gordon for allocation money, I assumed they would then pay San Jose (or whoever has top allocation spot) allocation money for Adu and then pay him whatever they deemed fit.
Leeds v Derby will be good as 2 yanks could be in the squad for the respective teams. Mike Grella at Leeds and Conor Doyle at Derby who has been granted international clearance.
Sweet, good catch i passed right over that. Now if we can see Sochaux, OM, OL, Bordeaux and Paris that’d be pretty good in my book.
Sure would be nice to have FSC in HD…
Can’t watch these games – they look horrible.
So did FSC pick up the French League? I am showing A League for the 3 pm slot tomorrow…
And btw, Adu to the Galaxy for DP money is a horrible idea. I hope to God its just rumors.
Nope. If he had left on a free, than yeah, RSL would still have his rights. But since they sold him, RSL no longer own his rights.
Man keep all soccer out of Detroit…. What a weak crowd. What are the Lions playin?
I think DP status trumps that….. Not 100% sure. Bad idea either way
How would this work? Wouldn’t RSL still own his rights? Or wouldn’t he have to go through some sort of allocation?
That would be the worst DP signing ever…… What a let down, first you hear Ronaldinho and now Adu…. That kid needs to go to an even lower league and learn some discipline.
soccer all year long… gotta love it
It looks like he did: http://www.rossoneriblog.com/ac-milan-panathinaikos-milan-squad/
Good for Gooch.
Did Onyewu make the bench for AC Milan?
where’s the adu to LA post? betting that will have a million comments within an hour
and with GOLTV in HD on Direct TV as well!!!
