  1. I am glad he is ok and is getting his form back BUT…Am I the only one here who remembers how and why he was hurt in the first place? He was out after curfew before a World Cup qualifier breaking team rules!

He let his team down, he let his country down and almost got himself killed in the process!

Think back to last summer to this site and recall how many of the posts here were about how the US had a lack of legitimate strikers and how it hurt our chances to advance in the World Cup. Would Charlie have made a difference? Maybe but due to his selfishness we will never know.

    I’m just saying.

I hope for nothing but the best for the kid going forward and I believe he does realize how truly lucky he is (to be alive and have the second chance most don’t get) and when he scores his next goal for the US I will surely cheer him but before we make this guy into a hero lets add a little perspective.

  2. Where does this tribute say anything about being all the way back? It’s tribute to what’s he’s accomplished to date since his injuries and that’s hugely impressive. He’s very deserving of a tribute now not sometime in the future when he’s subjectively all the way back.

  3. This video was really nice, but Jesus a little too epic… just saying. But I’m really glad the dude is better. I hope he gets a call up for the Gold Cup too, it’s just the right thing to do.

  4. I was delighted to see those two goals and it’s a huge, huge milestone…but I am forced to agree with too soon.

Charlie came off the bench for those two goals…behind Josh Wolff, who hasn’t appeared for the USMNT in years. But before we get too excited, one of those goals was a PK his teammates gifted him, the other was a defensive bust where an opposing defender fell down at the absolute worst possible moment and gifted Charlie the free run to goal.

What made Charlie Davies “CD9” was his blistering pace and quickness…just to my eyes, anyway, he still looks a little stiff and clunky compared to where he used to be pre-accident and that blistering pace that scared people every time he ran at them does not seem to be there yet.

Hopefully it’s just a case of, the guy just needs time to continue healing up. Guys often need as much as two years to fully recover from major ACL or Achilles injuries and what Davies suffered was just way, way worse than that.

But is he all the way back yet? Too soon…unfortunately.

  5. Unrelated, Jimmy Fallon just did a joke in his monologue hating on MLS, saying that “Hey its opening week for Major League Soccer… Its a lot like March Madness, only the sweet 16 is the number of people watching each game.”

    Not cool man…

  6. From scoring at Azteca, to coming within inches of death, to scoring goals again. I hope he gets the chance to bring it full circle.

  8. if he starts scoring goals by the bunches there’s no way he doesn’t get called up to the gold cup camp. alot of competition suddenly in the forward pool now. very exciting

  9. Charlie is going to need atleast a full season, ATLEAST, his body isn’t the same but he can still perform at a high level…it just takes time to get into form

If we see evidence of that before the goldcup then maybe he should be, but thats like a 10% chance, he really needs a full year to get into form

  10. I want Charlie on the Gold Cup squad, if only to make Altidore fight for his job in a 4-2-3-1 and maybe to take his place if it works out that way. Nothing against Altidore, but competition from Davies, Agudelo and Bunberry can’t help but light a fire under someone and get us with the best attacking option up front.

  12. time to ball out and force his way on Gold Cup squad. If CD 9 becomes CD 9 again, is 4-2-3-1 still best formation for nats?

  15. Kid is a stud. I hate DC the club but they added some quality this offseason. I’m just happy Charlie’s in the league and I’ll get to watch him play live once. I won’t boo you Charlie just like I won’t boo Landon. Anyone else is fair game though.

You should’ve come to Seattle Charlie!!!
