  1. From what I’ve read, Sounders’ ownership has been very hospitable to the supporters; same goes for Portland. The tifo displays are likely pre-approved. And there was obviously collaboration between Qwest and the supporters considering they hoisted the Levesque banner from some wires and rigging.

  2. Must have been a lot of coordination with the club, no doubt. (Just look who pulled up the final banner/how it was erected.)

  3. sweeeeeeeeeeet….nice job Seattle. keep growing this league.

These regional rivalries are much needed in a league that is spread out across such a large land mass.

  4. How are they allowed to bring that stuff in? It seems like it’d be perceived as a giant hazard.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s cool as heck. Just putting on my “paranoid stadium owner” cap.

  5. Oookay… but Keller was the GK when they were actually in MLS, the highest level of soccer in the US, and also for two US Open Cups, right?

  6. Awesome!

May these 2 teams continue to slug out draws and jockey for 5th & 6th place in the Western Conference for many long years to come.

  7. are you saying that the tifo interfered with Sounders play? no correlation whatsoever bud, except that it jizzed the crowd up.

  8. Jimmy Gabriel does the pregame show on the radio, Schmetzer is the assistant coach, Montero and Levesque are current players, and I think most Sounders fans know who Hahnemann is. So basically you’re wrong.

  9. There was more rain last weekend than Seattle averages for the entire month of May and most of it came down during the game. It made the game crappy, but seemed appropriate for inaugural Cascadia Cup match.

  10. Sailing’s expensive and Portland has no money, so they make fun of us for having jobs . . . and money . . . and an economy . . .

We make fun of them for having no trophies.

  11. I forgot the point.

Every single tourist in the stadium has now at least asked, “Who’s Jimmy Gabriel?” Good work ECS!

  12. There’s a bunch of “tourists” and ironically, the march gets worse the larger it gets as the tourists get more numerous. I’m not ECS, but pretty good at organizing crowds, so I was helping get the “We all hate Portland” chant going.

I marched around the crowd, facing the other way, playing pseudo-capo, yelling “we all hate Portland!” and getting in the tourist faces.

First guy gets it, joins in.

Second guy gets it, joins in.

Third guy gets confused, stares at me three feet away and fires his digital flash right into my eyes. D’oh!

  13. I don’t really get all the Portland digs about Seattle and sailing? Am I missing something? The ancient art of sailing is totally badass. If you’re a city based on any large body of water, chances are your history has something to do with boats that ran on sail power. I’m from Boston, and we’re crazy proud of our sailing tradition, just like Seattle should be. For every rich d-bag that sails mega-yachts, there are easily 10 times that many salty dogs with real character.

That being said, man that’s good Tifo. Bravo Sounders fans. I expect Timbers will have a good response on the return trip, but it’s tough to top that crowd. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Will Vancouver be doing anything this awesome for their portion of the Cascadia cup?

excellent display but 4 out of 5 of those players i’m sure 99% of Sounders fans have never heard of, not even Hahnemann

  15. Still have not had a chance to watch the Tivo of the game. Was underneath all of upper tarps when they came down, so I didn’t see any pictures or videos of this until after the game. Pretty awesome.

I need to throw in a weather report. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, but the rain during the game was pouring down. Almost an inch of rain fell in the 6 hours starting an hour before the start of the game. Which for the Seattle is a whole lot of rain. My shoes still haven’t fully dried out.

By the way, it was really awesome to see the large number of Timbers Army Supporters at the game. I am expecting the show they and the Seattle Supporters put on in Portland in July will be just as creative.

  16. I was at that game and gotta say this was very impressive. Thing is the Timbers army came out at the end of the Star Spangled Banner with 3 banners that said “We Are” “The Timbers Army” “Who Are You?” and then the ECS just came out and were like BAM! take that. When you looked over at the timbers army followers after that they all just kind of had their heads down.Really exciting start to the cascadia cup. It will be cool to see if the Timbers can top that in the rematch.

Also kind of interesting to see is that the mayors of the cities have a bet going on this series. The losing city’s mayor over the 2 game stretch will have to wear the other teams scarf for a day.

  17. Hey all,

I’m going to a Timbers game in Portland later this season. Can anyone recommend some good spots to hit pre-game? Is there are march to the stadium? Anything else I shouldn’t miss?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rich

  18. Word here in Seattle is Saturday night’s tifo is now being converted into sails and several dozen Sounders fans will be using ’em on their boats in this weekend’s regatta.

Naw, just kidding. Seriously Seattle…nicely done.

  20. ECS gets right to heart of Portland and this rivalry by displaying honor and respect to Sounders history. Amazing and extremely well thought out.

  21. I typically like Seattle the team and dislike the way Seattle fans come across on these boards, but this is twenty three different kinds of badass.

  22. It was a great tifo, and I know it took the ECS folks weeks and weeks … but I would have traded it for a win, personally.
