The next match of the Jurgen Klinsmann era will be taking place in Paris.

U.S. Soccer announced that the national team's next match will be against France on Nov. 11. A second friendly in Europe against a to-be-announced opponent will be played on Nov. 15. Both dates fall during the next FIFA international fixture window.

"France is traditionally one of the best teams in the world," Klinsmann said in a release. "When you look at their history, the players that have come through their team and what they have accomplished, you have to be impressed. This is an awesome opportunity for our players to play in a stadium that has hosted a World Cup Final, and a great experience for their careers."

That match will take place during the week in between the MLS Cup semifinal and championship, meaning that the MLS-based players who make the roster will be contingent on whose team is still alive in the playoffs.

The United States and France have met twice, with both times coming in 1979. The match will be the second of the Klinsmann era to be held on European soil. The United States fell to Belgium, 1-0, last month in Brussels.

What do you think of the matchup?

  1. Here’s the lineup I’d like to see:

    ————-Howard——————-
    Dolo—-John—–Boca—–Chandler
    ——–Williams–Bradley———-
    Donovan——Deuce——–Shea
    ————Agudelo—————

  2. Sweet Jesus this will be epic. As a big fan of French football and of course a USMNT die-hard, this has the makings of an upset. Euro qualifiers are done and many players will be looking to get to Boxing Day healthy, so while Blanc will not want to take his foot off the gas, I could see our French cousins coming into this game a little complacent.

So, Can we play Egypt or Ghana for our second?

Barring injuries I think we’ll see a nearly identical roster to this past fixture date, adding in F. Johnson and maybe Jermaine Jones if gets more minutes. I’m betting on LA being in the finals, which will mean LD and OG will be on lockdown.

  3. Congrats. You completely missed my point entirely. French is an ETHNICITY not a nationality. If an Italian moves to China, that doesn’t make him Chinese. He’s still an Italian. If an African moves to France, he’s still an African.

Thus, why we still have terms like Italian-American, German-Amrican, etc.

  4. I’m with you on LAG and FCD, but I’ve see enough of Agudelo for awhile. I hope Klinsmann leaves him off the November roster and tries out some others.

  5. Yeah — now you’ve gone off the rail. The French players — even the ones who have African links are French. Many of them aren’t even from sub-Saharan Africa — they’re of North African lineage. Even a guy like Evra, who was born in Senegal has lived in Europe since he took his first steps. Except for Malouda, they are all very French. The style they play isn’t particularly “African” — and they grew up watching and playing in the French system. Unless, of course, you think their ethnic or continental heritage dictates their style of play — in which case, that does sound racist.

  6. A piece of paper saying you’re French doesn’t make you French. Then theoretically anyone in the world could be French. That’s a destruction of culture right there if that’s how you define someone’s ethnicity.

  7. Citizenship doesn’t matter. French is an ETHNICITY. What does Charles De Gaulle, Louis Pastuer, or Gustave Eiffel have in common with Bacary Sagna? Nothing

  8. Beckerman probably won’t be there since RSL will probably still be in the MLS playoff race. Can you say Kljestan! That you might want to say oh my.

That said, I see an entirely European starting lineup. With most of the rest of the roster made up of European based players, some MLS and some Mexican league players.

    Altidore

    F.Johnson Dempsey Williams

    Bradley Edu

    Chandler Boca Gooch Cherundolo

    Howard

  9. What’s racist about it is that you insist on defining the players by their heritage, not their citizenship, and also seem not to think very highly of their heritage.

  10. How about America Somoa. It would probably be the first time the USMNT is coached by a foreigner while our opponent is coached by a Yank. Besides, think of all the goals we could score.

  11. What’s racist about? France is a mostly African squad. Everyone knows that. We should prepare and select a squad like we were playing Nigeria or Senegal.

  12. do you really think Klinsi would call Landon (or anyone for that matter) that is in the MLS final and risk injury….

    not going to happen.

  13. If we play our truly best squad (not the one that played against Ecuador) then we should be able to beat this African squad.

  14. Everyone seems to assume that Kilnsmann won’t call a player if he is in the MLS Cup Final. I think Klinsmann should/will call anyone he wants.

Let’s say the Galaxy is in the Final, then Donovan should be able to play at least on the 11th since he will have 7-8 days to recover before the Final on the 20th.

  15. What about France is so scary? Granted, they’re better than us, but still.

This is a team that couldn’t be Belarus over two legs (0-1 and 1-1), drew Romania in a game they actually should have lost, and squeaked into the Euros via a VERY dubious penalty.

This is of course coming off a disaster showing in a World Cup they shouldn’t have even been in, and a slightly less disastrous Euro2008.

  16. Unfortunately I think the Norwegian League ends ironically on the same date, so looks like we won’t have Gatt or Mix during this camp either. Molde look like they have a good shot at winning the title atleast, so good for Gatt

  17. This is a HUGE friendly and as an above poster mentioned, it will be covered with snide remarks by several extreme politicians both here and abroad. I hope the 2nd friendly will be against Serbia or Scotland

  20. Veterans’ Day match against France. Bound to bring out some snide comments from certain elements of our political (and anti-soccer) crowd.

Landy probably won’t be there since gaLAxy will likely make the semi-finals if not finals.

  21. i think it’s great for the US to play against one of the best teams in Europe, i just hope Klinsmann makes th right choices with the players he calls up, so the game doesn’t end up 3-0 in favor of France
