SBI MLS Team of the Week: Los Angeles Galaxy

The Los Angeles Galaxy are back to winning ways, picking up impressive victories against Western Conference foes Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps in games played just four days apart.

Taking six points from those two matches has bumped the Galaxy to fifth place in the Western Conference while also earning them SBI's MLS Team of the Week award. Los Angeles claimed the honors after erasing a two-goal deficit at Rio Tinto Stadium to rally and win 3-2 in unprecedented fashion on Wednesday, before thrashing the Vancouver Whitecaps, 3-0, at the Home Depot Center on Saturday.

The Galaxy narrowly edged out the San Jose Earthquakes, who also enjoyed an outstanding two-win week. The Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire were also considered this week.

What do you think of the Galaxy winning SBI's MLS Team of the Week award? Should it have been a different team? Which of Los Angeles' two wins were you more impressed by?

  1. it’s not bitterness, so I apologize if it came off that way. it’s simply a question. Pre-season nearly everyone was saying LA was going to waltz through the league… I thought so too. Thus far they’ve been underperforming at an atrocious rate, so now that they’re actually playing up to what the lineup card would suggest we’re supposed to throw a party? I don’t buy it. I applaud it to be sure, because I want to see every team playing well, but I just don’t think it’s anything to celebrate when a team with such dominant players suddenly starts to play well–that’s what they’re expected to do.

  2. A surprise upset against SKC after going winless in MLS play for the previous five games?

Or a 9-point swing including two shutouts and a 3-2 comeback away win at RSL?

    Advantage, LA.

  3. No kidding. It’s like he’s an anti-LA double agent. He came here, learned our secrets, and now uses them against us.

Seriously though, he’s found his niche. 60th minute sub and poacher. It’s becoming routine for him to score a game winning goal in stoppage.

  4. This can’t be for real. Union should have been team of the week. LA Gal”DP”s string two wins together now that their piggybanks are all back in town? About time says I.

A team of young players a week and half into a new coach stonewall arguably the most potent attacking team in the East while hitting four goals? That’s unthinkable.

  5. The thing that kills me about Gordon is that he never bothered to provide any late game heroics at the HDC until he stopped wearing a Galaxy uniform. To think, I used to like that guy.

  6. 10-15K Quakes fans and 30,000 teen age girls screaming for Beckham. That said, should be a great game.

  7. The game at Stanford Stadium is going to be epic. There are at least 100 ACB and Riot Squad going, and hopefully a few more LA stragglers.

Here’s hoping Alan Gordon breaks his leg on Tuesday. That guy gives LA hell.

  8. I’m with you- the galaxy are going to want some revenge for that devastating loss we dealt them at the HDC early on; hopefully the Quakes came thru Tuesday’s Cup match vs Seattle w/ no injuries.

  9. Saturday’s match between SJ and LA looks to be a great one with two of the leagues hottest teams meeting infront of 45,000 fans at Stanford Stadium. Can’t wait!!

  10. I thought LA’s win over Real Salt Lake was more impressive because not only was it an away game for LA, they were playing the number 1 team in the Western Conference(at the time) and had to comeback from a 2 goal deficit.
