Revolution land No. 1 pick in MLS draft

INDIANAPOLIS– The New England Revolution are now on the clock.

Toronto FC was always expected to deal one of its high draft picks before Thursday’s MLS Draft, and on Wednesday they made their move, sending the No. 1 overall pick to the Revolution for the No. 4 pick and an undisclosed amount of allocation money.

The Revs came into the draft expected to go after help at the forward position, but their need for help along the back-line makes Louisville defender Andrew Farrell the most likely option for New England at No. 1. Walker Zimmerman is also highly regarded, but Farrell’s ability to play both right back and centerback make him the more likely option for a team that can use help at centerback and fullback.

Toronto FC now sits at No. 3 and No. 4, but don’t be surprised to see TFC pull off another deal. The Colorado Rapids are eager to move up to take Walker Zimmerman and could swing a deal for the No. 3 pick.

What do you think of this development? Who would you take if you were the REvs?

  1. What TFC needs right now is talent. If you trade away the picks then you better be acquiring veteran talent. In theory the allocation is that but then I’ve seen teams sit on cap space or allocations for half a season. I’m not sure a delayed-use allocation is better than a #1 pick, if you choose well.

  2. Payne seems to have a real knack for dealing although he missed the player in the trade between colorado and the fire,i agree tfc will trade another pick
