Tottenham Hotspurs kept their hot run of form going on Thursday evening, when they defeated French club Lyon 2-1 at White Hart Lane.
Gareth Bale, as he has so many times this season, played the hero, scoring two tremendous free kick goals, the second coming in the third minute of extra time to win the game for the North London club. Spurs manager Andres Villas-Boas gushed about the Welsh winger’s play, comparing him to Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo
Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti cancelled out Bale’s 45th minute goal with a firecracker of his own, depositing the ball into the upper 90 in the 55th minute, before the 22-year-old’s heroics gave Tottenham the important first-leg win.

ATLETICO MADRID SUFFER STUNNING DEFEAT
Atletico Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, after Russian side Rubin Kazan recorded a 2-0 victory on Thursday night over last year’s Europa League champion.
Kazan took the lead in the 6th minute from midfielder Gokdeniz Karadeniz, and despite going down a man just before halftime, the visitors were able to hold on for the important three points. Even worse for Atleti, the final goal was scored after ‘keeper Sergio Asenjo went up the pitch for a corner kick, and after it was cleared, could not make it back to his net in time to stop Rubin midfielder Pablo Orbaiz from scoring an all-important second away goal.

Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini is a hot commodity these days, with his side in the Champions League round-of-16 despite financial issues.
Both Chelsea and Roma, who currently have interim bosses in charge, have inquired about the availability of the Chilean manager, according to Pellegrini’s agent Jesus Martinez. There is speculation that the 59-year-old could leave Malaga this summer, after UEFA banned his side from European competition next season.
According to the report, Roma’s offer has been rejected already, but Martinez has stated that no official decisions will be made until the end of the season.
NEWELL’S OLD BOYS, PALMEIRAS, OPEN UP LIBERTADORES CAMPAIGNS WITH WINS

I think that Iniesta is lamentably overlooked to some degree. He’s such a good player. This quote by Pires is a little ridiculous, however.
“We always talk about Messi, but without Iniesta Barcelona are a different team.”
Of course they would be! They would also be a drastically different team if you take away the man who has scored 38, 47, 53, 73 and 46 goals (so far this season) in the last five seasons. I get it, give Iniesta his due, but these arguments that “without (player X), Barcelona would be a different team” are so tiresome. Barcelona is a product of a golden generation of academy players and a few good purchases, all of whom perform vital functions.
We should be taking that €17,000 figure with a giant grain of salt. Remember when Beckham signed with the Galaxy in a “$100 million deal”? The media has a way of blowing sh*t out of proportion.
Or was it a “$250 million deal”? Either way, Becks earned $5 million per season over five seasons, then $3 million his last year. So that’s $28 million.
$250 mil was a number based on salary, bonuses, and endorsements over five years. 50 mil a year? Becks made that easily.
Milito out for the season
Forward Diego Milito will not play for FC Internazionale Milano again this season after suffering a serious left knee injury in Thursday’s 2-0 win against CFR 1907 Cluj.
Inter and Chelsea playing Europa League is so Funny
if only i could be becks for about a week
17,000 euros is like 21,000 dollars. what kinda hotel is that? Do they bleach your bum or fix your organs. Beckham can afford that all on his own.
3500 sq ft…
I doubt PSG actually have to pay that much, if any at all, to the hotel. It’s great for the hotel for obvious reasons, PR, exposure and all that. 17k euros a night would just be stupid. Probably only like 10 players in the world make that much (€120,000/week).
It is one of the ways to avoid establishing residency.
I’m no tax expert but if you look it up I think you will find French taxes can be pretty harsh. That is why the wife and kids are staying in London. If they come over and the kids attend school there is apparently a provision that allows the government to tax the “household”, meaning they can tax both husband and wife’s earnings anywhere in the world. Victoria has a pretty substantial business as well.
Staying at a hotel means Beckham is just in Paris on an extended business trip.
Bale is worth 30 million pounds but Spurs will seek to sell him for 40 to Barca or Madrid. Who will AVB bring in to replace him? I see Clint just might be a super-sub all next season.
To spurs hes worth more than 30 million
damn you Bale, you overshadow my boi Dempsey
