Estadio Universitario in Nuevo Leon plays host on Saturday to the 100th derby between Monterrey and Tigres UANL.
The classic rivalry, known locally as el Clasico Regiomontano, has existed since 1974, when Tigres and Monterrey drew 3-3 at the Universitario. Since then, Rayados have a one game advantage in the win column (35) on Tigres (34) with 29 total games finishing in a draw, and one game being suspended due to a mass brawl.
Monterrey and Tigres both carry significant star power on their roster, with El Tri players Jesus Zavala, Hiram Mier and Ricardo Osorio on Rayados, not to mention the man who needs no introduction, Humberto Suazo, while Tigres counter with Americans Jose Torres and Jonathan Bornstein, as well as Mexicans Carlos Salcido and Damian Alvarez.
Also in action in Apertura round five, Club Tijuana hosts Pumas UNAM, Cruz Azul host Chivas, and Puebla host first-place Veracruz.
