  1. Good show. Little question / what if for next show: With Man City buying a huge chunk of NYCFC and Stoke City recently announcing a push into North American soccer academies, I wonder what you guys think about EPL teams getting their hands in the American soccer cookie jar (funny cuz they actually advertised having Brek Shea on their roster as a reason why they’ve already been good for development of US players). Is it good for MLS? Is it good for the national team? Does it mean we’ve advanced from being viewed as a joke by European soccer to being a science project? What other teams in EPL or other leagues could you see making a move in the US?

Also, as a what if: how cool would it be if the Liverpool and Red Sox ownership bought the Revolution from Kraft, moved them to inside Boston and developed a real rivalry between NYCFC and Boston in MLS using the already established Red Sox – Yankees and Liverpool – Man City rivalries?

  2. I got behind by about 7 or 8 shows and just caught up. These have been some whoppers, but I prefer the long shows.

Thanks for all the work, guys. Excellent shows.

I still laugh when I think about Garrett walking to the gas station to buy crack…

  3. When Ives is talking about “the set” of people who want pro-rel, “the set” is code for Tinfoil Teddy.

Seriously, though, I agree with Ives. I’d like to see pro-rel, but only for the reason that it expands the number of teams that can enter the league without needing to have a 40-something team league or splitting it into two leagues geographically. My stance is “not now, maybe later,” which means that both extremes (“pro-rel will save the world” and “pro-rel is terrible and should never happen”) seem to hate me. Having a moderate stance doesn’t always pay off, I guess.

  4. I just woke up. I passed out from what me and my buddy thought would be a good drinking. He is still out lying on the floor, although he is moaning a little. We came up with this drinking game for the SBI Podcast. The last podcast we splurged and bought a fifth of Don Julio. the game was we would each do a shooter every time the words “You Know What” were spoken. 20 minutes into the Podcast the fifth was empty. We were disappointed that the high priced Tequila was gone so soon but we were only drunk.

We changed the rules for this podcast and since a full bottle did us no real harm we bought 2 bottles for today but we bought Tres Agaves instead. The rule change was that we would both do a shooter only times the words “You Know What” were spoken twice in the same sentence, plus a second shooter if it was said more than 2 times in a single sentence. Well, I don’t remember when I passed out but my buddy was on the floor before the 50 minute mark.

Maybe when my hangover is over I will listen to this podcast again, to tell you the truth I don’t remember a thing. But I can say for sure, this is one very bad idea for a drinking game.

  5. Another good (and long) show. I listen at work so the longer, the better.

I’m psyched about what the new CBA is going to bring…every time we get one of these we make the league more attractive to young international talent.
