With the expansion draft still over a month away, Orlando City will reportedly head into the club’s inaugural MLS season with a seasoned goalkeeper.
The Orlando Sentinel reported Tuesday that Orlando City, who is set to make a 2015 MLS debut, have acquired goalkeeper Tally Hall from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for allocation money. In addition, Orlando City also received an international roster spot in the exchange.
Per MLS guidelines, the deal will reportedly not be made official until Dec. 8 when the league’s trade window opens.
Hall confirmed the move via Twitter.
Hall, a six-year MLS veteran who has made 130 career starts, missed the conclusion of the 2014 regular season after suffering a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament. The 29-year-old underwent surgery in September and is expected to miss the 2015 preseason and potentially the start of the regular season.
The two-time MLS All-Star joins a roster that now boasts 10 players, including Designated Player Kaka and USL Pro MVP Kevin Molino, ahead of December’s expansion draft.

What do you think of the move? How will Hall fare for Orlando City? Should the club be worried about Hall’s ACL injury?

I am confused. Why is Houston giving up Hall and an international slot just for allocation? Is allocation money worth that much (granted we don’t know how much)? From what I understand, it can be used to cover expenses regardless of the salary cap, but Houston has nearly maxed out its international slot number for multiple seasons now. Seems kind of weird that they are giving one slot away (which I didn’t think they had, unless someone else is gone as well).
Rumor has it that the Dynamo are going to sign Julian Green.

Honestly, who the hell knows. Our convoluted system makes it ridiculous to follow and almost entirely eliminates an element of entertainment for the fans: discussion.
My thoughts:
1. New York had 2 int’l slots from Houston that reverted at an unknown date. This must be the year they revert.
2. Houston probably got a considerable amount of $$$, possibly enough to buy down the DP contracts of Boniek or Lopez to non-DP levels.
3. Houston hopefully got assurances from OC that they would leave Houston’s roster alone in the Expansion draft, similar to what Portland did w/ Montreal.
You know, Zach McMath would make a really solid number 2 behind Hall… hopefully he’d be open to that, as he’s got a lot more upside than he’s been showing. Spending two or three seasons apprenticing and really seeing how high his ceiling is might be just the thing for him.
I honestly thought MacMath might find himself there as the number 1 until this move was done. In my opinion he should be starting somewhere, wonder if someone like Portland might make a run at him, Ricketts didn’t look as good this year.
There’s a few good young keepers around that are ready for a go as a number one: Bingham, Kempin, MacMath…
Then don’t read it.
Relax. He meant to say September not December. Not a big deal. I read it as that and didn’t even notice December until you pointed it out. I understand the frustration but this site is nothing but a glorified blog. It’s not the AP or anything like that.
Tyler Deric is decent but if an opportunity arose in the Dispersal Draft of Chivas to get Dan Kennedy, I wouldn’t hesitate if I were Houston.
You must be a genius because I was thinking that Orlando should have tried to secure Kennedy. As soon as I read this article I was thinking that Houston should try to get him in the dispersal draft.
my thoughts exactly.. so Orlando isn’t going after Kennedy.
maybe New York will, if not next few in line would be:
Montreal (DK would be an upgrade over Perkins)
SJ (Busch is still pretty good)
Colorado (could use a GK but has more needs in other positions)
Seems like Houston got ripped off, unless they got a boatload of allocation money.
Agreed. Why did Houston part with the international slot? They don’t have a technical director or coach right now, so how the heck do they know they won’t need it?
Makin’ moves, Orlando! veteran keep and an international spot? smart.
Orlando City is going to be one of the most successful first year teams in recent MLS history.
Orlando still has 2 dps open spots right and nycfc one, any rumors who they will sign.
Jozy, Holden, robinho, hercules, gringo torres, corona, garza.
Mexican-Americans aren’t marketable in Florida.
Let’s all hope that it’s none of those players.
