For the second time this season, Sporting Kansas City handily defeated FC Dallas and it was Dom Dwyer who led the way this time.
Dwyer stole the show in Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match by scoring four goals in a 6-2 win at Sporting Park. Dwyer’s hat trick was completed in the 41st minute with a converted penalty, and he added another goal on a free kick from 20 yards away in the 70th minute.
The forward’s first two goals were assisted by Benny Feilhaber, who now has three U.S. Open Cup assists on the year.
Krisztian Nemeth slotted a Jacob Peterson pass into the net just before halftime and chipped Chris Seitz from the touchline in the 59th minute for Sporting’s other two goals.
Michael Barrios gave FC Dallas a consolation prize in the 62nd minute on an assist from David Texeira. Kellyn Acosta helped set up the other Dallas tally, sending a long-range shot that deflected off of Matt Besler and into Tim Melia’s net.
Sporting KC recorded nine shots on goal to FC Dallas’s four, yet the Texas club won the possession battle with 52.5 percent.
Sporting has now scored 11 goals against FC Dallas in three games this season, 10 of which have come at Sporting Park. Although both teams started strong lineups, Dallas was again without playmaker Fabian Castillo.
Sporting KC moves on to host a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals affair with the Houston Dynamo on July 21 at Sporting Park.
The Dynamo defeated the Colorado Rapids, 1-0, on Tuesday night to advance to the next round.
Did i say that right?
Three goals is a hat trick. What do you call four goals by the same player?
4 goals…
It’s called a Poker.
I’ve heard the expression “he was four-star” … also “five-star” for 5 goals.
That’s called a hambone
I call it pretty awesome, no matter who you are playing.
A bigger hat, like an Abe Lincoln Top Hat Trick. Perhaps a Big-Ass Sombrero Trick.
Hopefully Ellis will give his wife a chance to steal the show on Sunday. She really should have been played more this world cup
I think you mean Dwyer.
incorrect, sir.. wood chip’s comment makes perfect sense. he hopes Ellis (the USWNT coach) will give his (Dwyer’s) wife a chance to… etc”
please troll again
Not really trolling. There was a Kevin Ellis playing in last night’s game and and that statement about “Ellis” kinda came out of the blue.
Just a misreading. The original comment was confusing to me on the first glance.
out of the blue? the article’s about Dwyer…. his wife plays for the USWNT….. coached by Jill Ellis….. what’s so hard to understand?
While you may have had the name “Jill Ellis” in the font of your mind, just seeing “Ellis” was a touch confusing. I didn’t understand it at first blush and thought it was simply plugging in the wrong SKC player’s name. People misread things on comment boards. They aren’t necessarily trying to be trolls.
Actually, Wood Chip Zip’s comment is fraught with grammatical errors. It is open to multiple interpretations. There is no right interpretation and, therefore, a reader cannot be deemed a troll for taking the comment differently.
incorrect, sir, Woodchip’s comment was correct. he hopes Ellis (the USWNT coach) will give his (Dwyer’s) wife a chance to steal the show…etc.
gotta keep up, son…
We’re actually all correct except you. Try learning the definition of the word troll sometime. You shouldn’t use big words you don’t understand.
sure because definitions of slang terms are set in stone…
