U.S. U-20s top Israel, finish sixth in Stevan Vilotic Tournament

USMNT-U20-Israel

The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team may not have had the best run in the 2015 Stevan Vilotic Tournament, but they ended on a high note Monday.

The U.S. U-20s defeated Israel, 2-0, at Stadium FK Backa Topola in Backa Topola, Serbia. The victory sees the Americans finish in sixth place out of six teams.

An Israel own goal and a converted penalty kick by Real Salt Lake Homegrown talent Sebastian Saucedo were enough to see the U.S. win. However, a 6-1 loss to France Friday and a 3-1 defeat to Serbia Thursday will leave a sour taste.

One change Tab Ramos made to the starting lineup at the beginning of the tournament was to move Emmanuel Sabbi from a forward position into a midfield role, and the additions of Saucedo and Victor Mansaray up top worked well this time out.

Sporting Kansas City Homegrown defender Erik Palmer-Brown captained Monday’s squad, and he played in all three of the U.S.’s games.

Here is the starting lineup used by the U-20s against Israel below:

Goalkeeper: Justin Vom Steeg

Defenders: James Murphy, Erik Palmer-Brown, Justen Glad, Nicholas Hinds

Midfielders: Cameron Lindley, Martin Salas, Emmanuel Sabbi, Kyle Scott

Forwards: Sebastian Saucedo, Victor Mansaray

What did you think of the U-20’s performances during the tournament? What do you take away from these results?

  1. most of these kids wont be around through the whole cycle. as soon as the u17 world cup is over some of those players will take over and Cameron carter-Vickers will still be eligible for the u20s this cycle

    • He will probably be playing with the U23 the next cycle. You don’t keep a guy in an group simply because he’s young enough. You promote him to play at the highest level he can play. U20 guys rarely play 2 cycles if they are starters, no matter how young they are,
