In a battle to keep playoff hopes alive, New York City FC came away the victors in impressive fashion.
The San Jose Earthquakes are also fighting to stay in the hunt for a spot in the MLS playoffs, but New York City had their number Saturday, winning, 3-2, at Yankee Stadium.
An unlikely goal-scorer in Ned Grabavoy led NYCFC to victory, and the important late-season win earned the team recognition as SBI MLS Team of the Week.
Despite conceding twice at home, Grabavoy scored just as many as the Earthquakes and also assisted on David Villa’s lone goal of the evening. His performance helped keep NYCFC close behind the Montreal Impact, who hold the sixth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
NYCFC beat out the Montreal Impact, Seattle Sounders, Real Salt Lake and Sporting KC for the week’s honors as SBI MLS Team of the Week.
What did you think of New York City’s win? Which team impressed you the most this weekend?

Yes I am a Sounders fan, but their win seems more impressive to me. On the road blanking the SS leaders and putting up 3. San Jose has 2 draws and 2 losses in the last 4 and had to travel cross country which isn’t easy.
This blog is reading more and more like a local New York blog.
And FIFA 16. Bleh.
The only thing I will say is that this might be a reflection of the rapidly increasing options for people to digest soccer in the USA.
