MLS Playoffs: Your Running Commentary

Playoff soccer is ready to kick off once again in MLS.

D.C. United hosts the New England Revolution in Wednesday’s first first-round matchup (7:30 p.m., UniMas), while the Seattle Sounders welcome the LA Galaxy to CenturyLink Field later in the evening (10 p.m., UniMas).

Teams only have one shot to advance to the conference semifinals in 2015, as each matchup in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs simply serves as a one-off knockout game this season.

While both teams at RFK Stadium have struggled down the final stretch of the regular season, D.C. United is hoping that it can add another important win to its strong home record. Meanwhile, the Galaxy find themselves in an odd predicament, as the reigning MLS Cup winners must play away from home in the first round of this year’s tournament in order to start its repeat run. The Sounders, led by Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins, will hope to put an end to that run tonight.

If you will be watching tonight’s MLS action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. Really want MLS to be a success but this Unimas telecast is classic. I think someone in the top row is filming this on their I-phone

  2. Wow. That’s an ugly end to the season for the Revs. Geiger definitely botched a clear penalty in the 91st minute (how soon can we get video replay going in a booth? That call could have been made within 5 seconds after the play from 10 angles). Then Jones loses his mind and will get suspended for probably 5 games for grabbing the ref. Such a terrible end to the year. On the bright side… Agudelo Golazooooo!

    • How is kicking the ball into your opponent’s naturally-positioned arm from two yards away a penalty? It’s not either by the letter of the law, nor by the instructions to referees. There’s no way that’s a deliberate handling offense.

FWIW: I haven’t seen the other PK call – only the one that precipitated JJ losing his head. I’ll concede that it’s entirely possible that JJ was feeling hard done by after having a stricter call go against his club earlier in the match. Still: don’t touch the ref.

  3. wow, geiger….typical mls refereeing. sure jones, got a bit aggressive, but I don’t blame him one bit. I would of also gone absolutely nuts myself if I was in his position. So, I was watching a good mls playoff game and a horrible call decided the game and…….well i’ll stop if you’ve heard this one before. damn i’m not a revs fan, but just a very ugly way to go out, when your fate are in the hands of someone so incompetent.

  4. Kemp gives the ball tonight away like he’s begging to get investigated for match fixing. Or he’s just having a really terrible game.

      • Hey Dope, it is English commentary. Just one of the guys is really really terrible. And most people do not have UNIMAS, pretty frustrating for fans I imagine.

Well, now the post game show is n Spanish.

      • Yeah, I don’t have UniMas and I was about as mad as Jermaine Jones at the end of the NE-DC game. I had to find an illegal stream online, and now I feel like a criminal! This is your fault, not enough people caring about MLS!

    • Good to know it wasn’t just me. I assumed it would have been on the same channel as the regular season games (a channel I do get) and not on some other channel that even fewer people get.

    • Call him up! Actually he looked pretty badly hurt when he came out. Did anybody see what happened to him, I feel like he was offscreen and well away from the ball when it happened, but I might have taken one of my widely-loved long blinks.
