Wednesday night’s MLS Playoff openers provided plenty of excitement, and Thursday’s schedule has plenty of potential for fireworks as well.

Kicking off Thursday’s action is an all Canadian clash as the Montreal Impact play host to Toronto FC ( 7 p.m., UniMas). The matchup comes less than a week after the Impact topped TFC, 2-1, on a brace from Didier Drogba. An Impact win would lock up a matchup with the Columbus Crew, while TFC would lock horns with the New York Red Bulls if they were to advance.

Later, the Western Conference takes centerstage as the Portland Timbers play host to Sporting KC (10 p.m., UniMas). Both sides emerged victorious in the final week of the season, locking up a postseason date against one another. Should the Timbers win, Caleb Porter’s side would collide with the Vancouver Whitecaps in an all-Cascadia clash, while a series with FC Dallas awaits Sporting KC with a win.

  1. I’m surprised that Kempin saved so many. It looked like he was leaning early every time except that last one. I know reading the keeper and making that last second adjustment is difficult in PKs, but it seems like something you’d practice every so often at a professional level.

    • That may have been the most remarkable round of pk’s I have ever seen and I’ve been watching soccer for a long time. Not only that crazy one, but Kempin saved two high shots because he never dived. I’ve never seen that before.

  2. Impact game plan “shutdown the atomic ant”, because the other DP’s are not worth a damn….wow, and to think Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore are fixed starters for the USMNT??? Just Wow
