Among all of the LA Galaxy’s stars, a Ghanaian winger shined brightest in Southern California on Saturday.

Emmanuel Boateng earned his second start of the 2016 season, and made the most of his opportunity, scoring one goal and providing two assists to lead the Galaxy to a impressive 5-2 victory over Real Salt Lake. His performance was praised by teammates and head coach Bruce Arena following the game, and it earned him SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

The 22-year-old speedster caused problems all evening long for the RSL back line, and he was rewarded with his first-ever MLS goal in the 41st minute. Combining with Giovani dos Santos in the middle of the final third, the Galaxy winger sped into the box and fired in his goal after controlling the ball from a Gyasi Zardes mistouch.

Boateng beat out Vancouver Whitecaps forward Kekuta Manneh, Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco and Colorado Rapids midfielder Jermaine Jones for this week’s honors.

What do you think of Boateng’s performance against Real Salt Lake? Who stood out the most to you in Week 8?

  1. Like his energy..

Incredibly aggressive player who is smart enough to take advantage of his superior pace..

As mentioned above, he’s competent with the ball at his feet.. Still an unfinished product but he’ll probably thrive against MLS defences and in Bruce Arena’s system specifically

Good mix of players on the Galaxy team..

Will definitely be interesting to watch this conference table play out..

  2. Few things……… that first times I saw him his constant movement and pace stood out… he is more than that though- has skill on the ball, works hard is very active on defense. He will be giving teams fits.

As much that is said about LA being old, there is some young talent in the roster as well. Gio, Zardes, Boateng were key in that game, Lletget,, Villareal, Jameson sat.
