On Tuesday, the second round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup paved the way for seven amateur clubs to advance to the competition’s third round, while one more will earn their spot on Thursday night.
The second round certainly was filled with drama, as five games were decided by penalty kicks. The round also included several upsets, as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Charleston Battery, Orange County Blues and Tulsa Roughnecks were among the USL teams thwarted by underdogs.
Seven amateur division teams — including Chattanooga FC, Kitsap Pumas and La Maquina — clinched a spot in the next round. On Thursday night, Open Division qualifier New York Pancyprian-Freedoms will host the PDL’s Jersey Express for the final eighth spot for amateur teams.
The third round will be on June 1. The draw for the fourth round will take place on Thursday .

some good regional match ups in the next round – Louisville vs Indy and the Oklahoma teams probably the two most interesting.
5 years ago – never would have imagined that there would be matches of this magnitude in those parts of the country!
And that Indy-Louisville match would be a rematch from last year where LC won.
