Three faces familiar to the U.S. Soccer scene will be presiding over games during this summer’s Copa America Centenario.
The local organizing committee of the tournament announced on Wednesday the match officials that will be in charge of matches during the upcoming Copa America Centenario, and U.S. referees Mark Geiger, Jair Marrufo, and Armando Villareal were among the CONCACAF representatives.
In total, 58 referees from 18 countries in CONCACAF and CONMEBOL were chosen. Eighteen of those officials will serve as the man in the middle of games, 34 as assistant referees, and six as reserves. The two confederations’ respective referee committees oversaw the selection process for the match officials.
The Copa America Centenario, which is celebrating the 100th year of CONMEBOL’s tournament, runs from June 3-26 in the United States.

i can never forgive Geiger for destroying the 2015 Gold Cup
so the folks picking the refs certainly knew about that. so maybe those calls are not as egregious as the “fan” believe them to be…
Geiger… lol. I just hope he doesn’t ruin any games in this tournament.
Mark Geiger (USA)
Jair Marrufo (USA)
Armando Villareal (USA)
Sadly this is the best we have.
so how about this…the general viewing public has no idea what they are talking about and these are actually good referees. there may be a call or two that you can point out, but from an overrall body of work perspective…
check out Geiger’s work last summer, and the summer before. Let me know if those are “a call or two”
Astonishing that Geiger remains at the top of the heap in American refereeing. Just goes to show how subjective the assessment process is. Marrufo and Villareal too? Seriously? The only thing you can say about those two guys is that they must have an excellent HGH connection.
Shame Alan Kelly isn’t on this list. Gotta think his committed disdain for diving kept him out of a tournament featuring CONMEBOL teams.
