Bradley Wright-Phillips’ domination of New York City FC reached a new height on Saturday.
After scoring four goals in three games against his local rivals in 2015, the New York Red Bulls forward provided two more and an assist in Saturday’s 7-0 demolition of NYCFC. The performance led the way in an unprecedented Red Bulls win while also netting Wright-Phillips honors as SBI MLS Player of the Week.
After seeing Dax McCarty deflate the opposition with his opener, Wright-Phillips continued the Red Bulls assault with a pair of goals in the closing moments of the first half. The Red Bulls’ swarming saw its second goal with a near post finish from Wright-Phillips in the 42nd minute before a first half stoppage time bicycle kick further deflated the Yankee Stadium crowd before halftime. An assist from the Red Bulls forward came after another McCarty finish, as Wright-Phillips teed up rookie Alex Muyl for the game’s fifth goal.
Wright-Phillips led the way in a complete destruction of a rival, earning the forward honors as SBI MLS Player of the week over McCarty, Cyle Larin, Marc Burch and Diego Valeri.
