Throughout the start of the 2016 campaign, the Vancouver Whitecaps had difficulty putting together complete performances. They had no such issues this past week despite playing two of the league’s most thrilling contests.
Facing off with a pair of Eastern Conference foes, the Whitecaps earned a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire before topping Toronto FC in a 4-3 thriller. The two results lifted the Whitecaps to third in the Western Conference while also earning the club honors as SBI MLS Team of the Week.
The six-point week began on Wednesday with a last-minute victory over the Fire. Tied heading into the game’s final moments, Blas Perez unleashed a bicycle kick for his brace while also cementing a Whitecaps win. A 4-3 defeat of Eastern Conference frontrunners Toronto FC soon followed, as SBI MLS Player of the Week Kekuta Manneh, Christian Bolanos and Pedro Morales combined to push the Whitecaps to a statement win.
The pair of victories have the Whitecaps on a three-game winning streak, while the two results also lifted the club to SBI MLS Team of the Week honors over FC Dallas and New York City FC.
