Jerome Kiesewetter will remain in Germany, but the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team winger has found himself a new club.

Fortuna Dusseldorf announced on Friday that the club has signed Kiesewetter to a two-year deal. The winger joins the 2. Bundesliga club, who finished 14th last season, after spending the last five years of his career with Stuttgart.

“I am very happy now to be a part of Fortuna. The anticipation for preseason is correspondingly big for me. (Head coach) Friedhelm Funkel gave me a very good feeling during their talks. It was clear to me that the Fortuna is the right next step for me.”

“With his dynamic speed, Jerome Kiesewetter will be an asset to our attacking department,” Funkel added. “It is no coincidence that hem at a young age first, inserted himself into the team with VfB in the Bundesliga an,  in the American national team, has already earned a cap. We will make every effort to further promote his undoubted qualities.”

Kiesewetter was a key member of the U.S. U-23s throughout the team’s Olympic qualifying run. The 23-year-old has earned two senior caps with the USMNT.

What do you think of the move? Excited for Kiesewetter’s move?

    • With consistent playing time he could push any number of attacking players. With Dempsey & Wondo both aging and a number of young attackers waiting in the wings (Pulisic, Menneh, Kiesewetter, Green,) there are a lot of possibilities for the future…especially if we continue to experiment with a 4-3-3 and/or a 4-2-3-1.
A lot will really depend on what happens during the upcoming season…..
Johannsson returns healthy, Green loaned/transfer with consistent PT, Wood’s move to the 1st division, Kiesewetter’s move, Menneh gaining US Citizenship, Rubin returns healthy, Gyau returns to health (possible loan), etc…. There is a lot of potential for our attack over the next year.

  2. Somewhere I read Green potentially to Stuttgart, can we get the 2.Bundesliga on FS2? Come on FOX how much could that deal cost?

  3. Germany looks to be a good place for Americans to develop although it helps to have come up in their systems. Hopefully MLS can become that place too. Atl. Utd. signed the ginger kid with great shot power burst and touch, I don;t recall his name. Hopefully by the time it’s time for him to go overseas, he doesn’t have to because MLS is a destination league.
