The Best of NASL Week 14: Cole, Rayo OKC, and more

OKC-NYC

The third week of the NASL Fall Season gave fans a lot to chew on, from a shocking destruction of the New York Cosmos to a bicycle kick goal from a league newcomer.

The Carolina RailHawks and FC Edmonton both continued their ascent back up the table with narrow wins this weekend. The RailHawks won 1-0 on the road against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, while the Eddies beat the Ottawa Fury by the same scoreline at home. Elsewhere, a stoppage time winner from Jaime Chavez gifted Miami FC three points against a 10-man Jacksonville Armada team.

In the north, Minnesota United exercised its demons against Indy Eleven at home, earning a 2-0 victory over the Spring Season champions and snapping the club’s 13-game unbeaten streak.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Michel was the man of the hour Saturday night in Oklahoma City, as his two second half goals put his team in pole position to take three points from the league-leading New York Cosmos. His 16-minute brace included a penalty and a splendid free kick into the top corner.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Rayo OKC earns team of the week honors after an inspired performance at home against the reigning champion New York Cosmos. The team conceded possession to their opponents, only holding 30% over the course of the match. The safe hands of Daniel Fernandes in goal,  clinical finishing from Michel and Georgios Samaras’ first NASL goal all came together to make this huge win possible.

GOAL OF THE WEEK

Joe Cole undoubtedly wins goal of the week for his solo bicycle kick goal to break the deadlock in the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ win over Puerto Rico FC. His strike opened the scoring and gave his new team a chance to really hit their stride for the first time this Fall.
