The U.S. Open Cup will be decided on Tuesday night as a Supporters’ Shield contender hosts a team still fighting for a spot in the postseason.
Throughout the 2016 season, FC Dallas has established itself as a top dog in the West, but the team’s quest towards silverware continues in Tuesday’s finale against the New England Revolution (10 p.m., ESPN 2). Still in contention for a historic treble, FC Dallas can claim their second trophy in club history on Tuesday while helping to boost momentum towards what could be a run at two more.
On the other side, the Revs remain in a fierce Eastern Conference playoff battle. Currently in seventh place, Jay Heaps’ team has built momentum in recent weeks, and the Revs will now hope that momentum can carry them to a surprising trophy win over a favored FC Dallas side.
The SBI staff will be offering updates and analysis in the comments section below, so feel free to follow along, and as always, please feel free to share your own thoughts and opinions below.
Enjoy the action.

i had no idea the final was last night. was thinking it was more toward october.
GOAL URRUTI! Game over. The FC Dallas forward makes it 4-1 as he breaks free from everyone and finishes. 4-1 FC Dallas, who looks every bit an MLS Cup contender tonight.
Thanks Ryan! I was watching and was a little too stressed to log on here.
Nearly from Agudelo! Cross in skids off the forward’s head. FC Dallas were cruising, but a warning shot from the Revs. Game isn’t quite over as we enter the 56th minute.
GOAL FC DALLAS! Penalty kick called on a foul on an FC Dallas free kick. Mauro Diaz steps up and buries it just moments before halftime. 3-1 to the hosts.
Revs have now burned two subs due to injury. Something to watch as the game wears on.
GOAL HEDGES! FC Dallas takes the lead in the 40th minute. Hedges left WIDE OPEN. Revs clear first ball, but Hedges is open as can be in the center of the box for the second ball. Headed finish and the hosts are up, 2-1.
Big save from Knighton as we move past the 33rd minute. FC Dallas looking solid. Score still 1-1
GOAL URRUTI! Game on. Since Agudelo’s goal, it’s been all FC Dallas and Urruti finally punches it in. Takes a magnificent touch past his defender and then rockets a volley into the back of the net. 1-1.
GOAL AGUDELO! Just six minutes in and the Revs have shocked the Frisco crowd. Turnover in the FCD half springs a Revs attack. Agudelo spins his defender like a top and fires a shot past Chris Seitz. 1-0 Revs. What a start.
For those looking for the game on TV, currently airing on ESPN News.
