Sebastian Lletget is currently with the U.S. Men’s National Team, but the midfielder’s club situation was solidified on Wednesday afternoon.
The LA Galaxy announced Wednesday that Lletget has a contract extension with the club. Lletget has made 40 starts, scoring eight times while adding 10 assists during his stay with the club.
Lletget joined the Galaxy in May 2015 after previously featuring for West Ham. The midfielder is currently participating in January camp with the USMNT as he looks to earn his first senior international cap.
Here’s a closer look at some of Wednesday’s MLS news and notes:
SOUNDERS ADD PAIR OF HOMEGROWNS
The Seattle Sounders bolstered their roster on Wednesday with a pair of Homegrown signings.
UCLA’s Seyi Adekoya and Washington midfielder Henry Wingo have been signed as the club’s eighth and ninth Homegrown signings, the Sounders announced on Wednesday. Wingo started 16 matches for the Huskies this past season, adding a goal and two assists, while Adekoya 20 goals in 55 games during his stay with UCLA.
“We’re pleased to add two promising young players to our roster as we head into the opening of preseason training camp,” said Sounders General Manager Garth Lagerwey. “It’s vital that we continue to build from the Academy and we look forward to seeing what Seyi and Henry can bring to the table.”
MINNESOTA UNITED FINALIZES COACHING STAFF
Adrian Heath’s staff has been finalized ahead of Minnesota United’s first MLS season.
Minnesota United announced on Wednesday that Ian Fuller and Mark Watson has been named assistant coaches and Marius Røvde has been named the club’s the goalkeeping coach. Fuller and Watson both worked with Heath during his stay at Orlando City.
“Like most coaches, you like to be familiar with your coaching staff, if you are comfortable with them and know how they work on a daily basis that breeds success,” said Heath. “I look back at what Mark [Watson] and Ian [Fuller] and I did in Orlando and I am very proud of what we achieved. I am delighted we managed to get the three of us back together again.”
ATLANTA UNITED RENEWS AFFILIATION WITH CHARLESTON BATTERY
The Charleston Battery helped several Atlanta United prospects prepare for MLS, and the two clubs will now continue their affiliation going forward.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the two clubs have renewed their affiliation agreement for 2017. Atlanta United goalkeeper Alex Tambakis, midfielder Andrew Carleton and forward Jeffrey Otoo all took the field for the USL club in 2016.
Atlanta United will play the Battery on Feb. 25 as part of the club’s preseason.
Unless the Galaxy come up with some big name signings in the midfield, Lletget is going to be handed the keys to the offense this year. They’ve got nobody else to play in the CAM position.
(and no, despite the fact that he wears LD’s #10 shirt, Dos Santos is NOT a CAM, is NOT a true “#10.” He is no orchestra conductor. Dude wants nothing more than to hang on to the ball, like, forever).
Arena tried Lletget as CAM at the end of last season and he looked good. Shaping up to be a big year for Lletget.
I hope you are right. That said, LA just signed the 23 year Portuguese. We shall see.
