The next stage of Mix Diskerud’s career has officially begun.
IFK Goteborg announced on Friday that the club has signed Diskerud on loan from NYCFC through Aug. 27. The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder has already joined the club for two training sessions under Jorgen Lennartson, who previously managed Diskerud at Norwegian side Stabaek.
“It’s a signing that feels very good,” Lennartson said. “I had him as a coach during a season. He’s a very good person, a loyal team player who can be used in many different positions. His main characteristics are a very well-developed understanding of the game, a fine technique and nimble feet in their movements.”
Reports linking Diskerud to the Swedish club emerged earlier this week after NYCFC announced that the club had bought out the midfielder’s deal.
Sweden’s Allsvenskan league commences is set to begin on April 1.
NYCFC buys out his deal but they are still loaning him? What?
Isn’t his contract technically with MLS?
I had the same the question.
Because MLS.
I’ve been raising questions about this entire situation for weeks. Makes zero sense on so many fronts, but again…MLS.
Perhaps a loan made more economic sense than a sale at the price they could have gotten.
Why are NYFC even bothering with a loan? They clearly don’t want him.
When you can’t sell a guy, you take the next best option.
I think MLS is loaning him out, not NYCFC, who bought out his contract, presumably his rights revert back to the league.
If nothing else it sounds like he will be playing under a manager who knows what he is getting. All’s well that ends well I guess.
