Week 16 was hotly-contested with the top dogs strutting their stuff, mixed in with a shock upset.

While the Chicago Fire upended a formerly-unbeaten New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium, Cristian Techera stole a draw for the Vancouver Whitecaps in stunning fashion. Elsewhere, Ignacio Piatti once again put the Montreal Impact on his back, while Nick Lima continued his impressive rookie campaign with another shutout.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ignacio Piatti did once again what he’s done consistently for the Montreal Impact and put on a strong showing in the team’s 3-3 road draw against Orlando City. Piatti recorded two goals of his own and assisted the third from Blerim Dzemaili, earning him POTW honors.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Chicago Fire went into Massachusetts and did what no team had done yet this season: beat the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. En route to their 2-1 victory, the Fire kept themselves in second in the Eastern Conference, just behind Toronto FC at the top of the Supporters’ Shield race. A big turnaround for a team that hasn’t impressed the past few seasons.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Once again, San Jose Earthquakes rookie Nick Lima helped solidify a back four that pitched yet another shutout this season in their scoreless draw against Sporting Kansas City. Against Dom Dwyer, Gerso Fernandes, and an aggressive Sporting KC attack, Lima looked comfortable in a strong showing for the Quakes back line.

GOAL OF THE WEEK

It’s always good to rescue a draw for your team against a strong opponent like FC Dallas, but Cristian Techera did much more when he unleashed this stunning free kick:
