World Cup Qualifying matches remain the primary action to take in this weekend, with competitions taking place all across the globe.
The European group stage has several close races going on, and Sunday’s Spain-Sweden matchup has control of Group B on the line, as well as the winner’s fortune of being able to control its own destiny.
In South America, Uruguay is looking to improve upon its last matchup with Argentina, where they lost 3-0 in October. The Argentines have the luxury of some separation in terms of their CONMEBOL qualification status, but Uruguay needs to make up points in a hurry and should come out of the gate swinging on Friday night.
Of course, the U.S. men’s national team’s Friday night meeting with Mexico headlines the qualifying slate in the CONCACAF region, but Canada vs Costa Rica is another game to keep an eye on, as it’s a must-win for Canada. In the last window, the Canadians beat Panama 4-1 but it wasn’t enough to keep the Panamanians out of striking distance of third place (and guaranteed World Cup safety).
