Joe Scally earned his third start of 2022 for Bundesliga club Borussia Moenchengladbach and did not disappoint in an important home victory for the club.
Scally played 90 minutes as a right wingback in Gladbach’s 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday. The U.S. men’s national team defender excelled on both ends of the field at Borussia Park, winning eight of his 12 duels and also making three tackles in the shutout win. The 19-year-old Scally also completed 92% of his passes in the match, picking up more confidence in his quest to remain in Christian Peintinger’s starting lineup for the remainder of the season. Saturday’s victory moved Gladbach seven points clear of the relegation zone in the Bundesliga and sets it up nicely for a road match at Bochum on Friday.
In England, Ethan Horvath registered his third clean sheet as Nottingham Forest’s starter in a 4-0 win over Reading. Jesse Marsch earned his first EPL victory in a thrilling 2-1 win for Leeds United over Norwich City.
In Spain, Yunus Musah started in his second consecutive league match as Valencia earned three points over Getafe.
Elsewhere, James Sands started and played 90 minutes in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Dundee FC. John Brooks played 90 minutes for Wolfsburg, but the Bundesliga side lost on the road to Freiburg. Jordan Pefok scored his 17th league goal of the season as Young Boys tied Lausanne 2-2.
