Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Pulisic, and more

The FA Cup returns this weekend and U.S. men’s national team star Christian Pulisic will be pushing to start at Wembley Stadium.

Pulisic has played in three consecutive matches in all competitions and will be hoping to help Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea advance past London rivals Crystal Palace in semfinal action. The Blues are coming off elimination from the UEFA Champions League midweek, losing on aggregate to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. Pulisic appeared off of the bench in the thrilling second leg affair and will now turn his attentions to a London Derby against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Elsewhere in England, Dean Smith is hoping to have Josh Sargent back from injury for Norwich City’s big clash against Manchester United. The American forward was getting consistent minutes until he suffered an ankle injury in mid-March.

In Germany, Wolfsburg goes up against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday where John Brooks has remained a consistent presence in defense. Kevin Paredes will also be hoping to see the field for Wolfsburg after making his Bundesliga debut last weekend.

In Italy, Gianluca Busio and Venezia need to come away with points when they visit Fiorentina on Saturday. The team has fallen into the relegation zone and is on a seven-match winless streak.

In Spain, Sergiño Dest and Barcelona host Cadiz on Monday. Dest recently returned to action on Thursday as Barcelona was eliminated from the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals.

In Scottish Cup semifinal action, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic host rivals Rangers on Sunday at Hampden Park. Also, Chris Mueller and Hibernian visit Hearts on Saturday. The winners will advance to the Scottish Cup Final, which takes place on May 21st.

  1. Steffen fell asleep, gave Liverpool the winning goal. He just looks out of it. Meds for the back pain? Lack of confidence? Rust?
Either way, he needs a move. After that gaffe, he will probably get one.
If Turner gets any time, he should be our No. 1.

    • Unfortunately- barring injury or steep drop-off with Ramsdale- Turner won’t get any more time with Arsenal than Steffen is at MC.
