Week 15 of MLS regular season action concluded on Sunday with Bruce Arena’s New England Revolution claiming a 2-1 home win over Minnesota United in Matt Turner’s final match for the Eastern Conference.
Turner, who will now make the move to English Premier League side Arsenal, did not feature in the victory. Dylan Borrero and Gustavo Bou both scored in the second half to help the Revs fight back from a first-half deficit, canceling out a penalty kick opener from Emanuel Reynoso. The Revs are now unbeaten in eight-straight league matches, continuing their surge up the Eastern Conference table.
In the headlining match of the weekend, LAFC and the Seattle Sounders played out a 1-1 draw at Lumen Field on Saturday. Stefan Frei’s six saves ensured the Sounders could soak up pressure from LAFC as Brian Schmetzer’s side earned one point against a plucky LAFC side. Albert Rusnak’s opening goal for the Sounders was cancelled out by Cristian Arango’s 79th-minute equalizer.
Atlanta United also earned three points this weekend, scoring once in each half to defeat Inter Miami 2-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Josef Martinez and Luiz Araujo both registered one goal and one assist apiece as the Five Stripes leapfrogged the Herons in the table and moved to ninth place.
Sporting KC entered Geodis Park for the first time and walked away with three points after earning a 2-1 win over Nashville SC. Graham Zusi’s stellar second-half goal proved to be the deciding goal between the two Western Conference clubs.
The Chicago Fire ended a 10-match winless streak by beating D.C. United 1-0 on the strength of a Fabian Herbers winner.
Orlando City’s Ercan Kara scored two goals in an important win for the Lions over the Houston Dynamo. In one of Saturday’s late matches, Real Salt Lake notched its best home start in club history at 6-0-1 after a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. Winger Jefferson Savarino scored and assisted in his first start for the club since signing. Savarino last played for RSL in 2019.
