Two of the Bundesliga title favorites will meet in Dortmund on Saturday, as both aim to propel themselves back into their traditional spots of the Bundesliga table.
Borussia Dortmund hosts Bayern Munich in the first Der Klassiker of the season, as both teams sit level on 15 points apiece. Bayern sits in front of Dortmund on goal differential and will be eager to leapfrog both Union Berlin and Freiburg in the league standings by weekend’s end. Julian Nagelsmann’s squad have posted a +9-goal differential in back-to-back wins and will rely on Leroy Sane, Sadio Mane, among others in a highly anticipated showdown.
Borussia Dortmund has won two of its last three matches, most recently downing Sevilla 4-1 in UEFA Champions League action. Jude Bellingham has been the focus of Edin Terzic’s attack, scoring once and assisting once in Spain midweek. The 19-year-old has yet to score in Bundesliga action this season, but will hope for an opportunity against his biggest rivals.
Arsenal’s grip on the No. 1 spot in the English Premier League will be put to the test once again as Liverpool visits the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Mikel Arteta’s squad will be brimming with confidence following last weekend’s 3-1 North London Derby victory over Tottenham. Liverpool is 10th in the EPL table and in desperate need of a statement victory to start a surge up the standings.
Serie A will also be headlined by a rivalry showdown this weekend as AC Milan welcomes Juventus to the San Siro. The Bianconeri have lost two of their last three matches, falling to Napoli and Chelsea in recent weeks. Juventus has won back-to-back matches for the first time this season and will be pushing to inch up the table with three points on Saturday.
MLS Decision Day will also be among the intriguing options this weekend with two playoff spots in both the Eastern and Western Conferences up for grabs. The Columbus Crew visits Orlando City in a crucial showdown in the East while FC Cincinnati has all but sealed a first-ever playoff berth. In the West, Minnesota United hosts the Vancouver Whitecaps while Real Salt Lake faces the Portland Timbers with all four teams fighting for playoff spots.
The U.S. women’s national team’s busy October schedule begins Friday with a trip to face England at Wembley Stadium. The Americans have won three of their last four head-to-head meetings with the Lionesses, including a 2-1 triumph over England in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup semifinals.
