Ricardo Pepi remained amongst the goals for Dutch side FC Groningen on Wednesday, icing a shutout KNVB Cup victory for the Eredivisie side.

Pepi scored his fifth goal in all competitions as FC Groningen defeated FC Dordrecht 3-0 in first round action. The Augsburg loanee now has five goals and one assist in six combined appearances for FC Groningen, continuing a strong run of form.

Pepi played the entire 90 minutes for Frank Vormuth’s side, capping off a dominant performance by the Eredivisie visitors. After Neraysho Kasanwirjo scored goals in the 42nd and 81st minutes respectively, Pepi capped off a counter attack just before the final whistle.

The 20-year-old tapped into an empty goal to give FC Groningen an insurance goal over the Eerste Divisie hosts.

Both Pepi and his FC Groningen teammates will hope Wednesday’s victory sparks them in league play this weekend with the club sitting 16th in the 18-team league.

Up next is a home date with second-place PSV before final matches against FC Emmen, FC Utrecht, and Fortuna Sittard before the World Cup break.

  1. FC Groningen:
The rightback Neraysho Kasanwirjo scored 2 goals, Goalkeeper gets substituted off in the 46 minute, team had almost 70% possession, team had 22 shots with only 9 on target…….Interesting game

    • I believe Ricardo had 9 of those shots with 5 on target or something close to that. Their opponent seemed to be pretty bad even by 2nd Div standards.
