  1. I think Greg should stick to the 4-4-1-1 with one minor tweak: put Weah at LW and Pulisic into the hole under whatever striker he deploys. For me Pulisic needs to be closer to goal. He is the leading goal scorer. Wright should get another start.

    • For once I agree with Bruce Arena that Pulisic needs to be closer to goal and utilized in that hole under the striker. That coaches have been utilizing Pulisic wrong out on the wing.

    • i’ve been arguing play pulisic at striker for a while. personally since both weah and pulisic are runners and i don’t see either as target men i don’t get why stack one or the other. heck i would have it kind of positionless, tell them to stay with each other but let them run around and swap. i don’t see where one above, below, or to a particular side of the other matters. i think you’re trying to force a target element in but weah at U20 vs ukraine didn’t carry off a 9 target role well and i just don’t think we have that role in this roster. knowing that i would just call it “landon and dempsey” and leave it at that. you’re the forwards, stay on contact, go create stuff, and let them sort out how. but i definitely agree we need to do something other than whack in aimless crosses and set pieces and hope, and we need more clinical striking or we won’t get the next game much less consider how knockouts would work. kind of circular but if you need a win you need some winners to get it for you. striker is a joke and i don’t see ferreira in more than a sub role against iran.

      • over the last 2 years I feel like every time we’ve needed a result we’ve gotten it done, and the boys are really growing into the tourney atm so I think we get it done!

  2. If the US can dominate and score a couple goals in the first half they have a chance at frustrating Iran into making silly fouls and mistakes in the second half. Iran will be super charged from their fan base. Take the fan base out of it and the game will be won.

    • The US players better be super charged by their fan base as well. Most recently Quiroz told the Iranian fans to stay home if they are going to boo the team for political reasons. It would be interesting to see if those Iranian boo if the US scores early. I would love for the US to score early and often and finish them off, but it might be tight giving all of us panic attacks. But all you really need is a 1-0 score line.

  3. Still have to be careful in this last game. Yellow card accumulation does carry over into the knock out rounds. Don’t want a string of our core missing that game if we do make it to round of 16.

    • gotta do what you gotta do, i agree with the response. i would instead separate smart from dumb. if someone needs to take a card to get the win, professional foul, time waste, ok. dissent, a fight, tackle with their back to goal at halffield, enforcer stuff, waste of a card and suspension. i do agree with that much. but if it’s winning and advancing vs ps and qs, you take the hit for the team. you just hope it’s not someone important. this is one reason you don’t take the first card lightly is you may not have a choice on the second.

  4. i think they should be picked for shot stopping anyway. i thought they solved any issues he had when he got the green light to hoof kicks and clearances past half field. i do think he looks much more comfortable ball at feet now, but that;’s secondary.
